Too Short and E-40 release a new project and this is the review of Too Short’s album Ain’t Gone Do It. Short Dogg gives us 10 new songs that are Oakland pimpin music to the fullest. He sounds true to form on the mic and gives us exactly what we want to hear. The bars are full of pimpin bravado at it’s finest just as Too Short has always been. The beats are definitely Bay Area to the core. He really has a good mix of songs on here. The highlights include “Good Pussy Walk” featuring Rayven Justice. We were definitely digging the sample on that one and the sung hook is pretty infectious. The best song on here has to be the E-40 assisted “Triple Gold Sox.” Both artists are at their best over this gem and the beat goes super hard. This was another great job by Too Short and we wish him many, many more years of success.

This is a terrible new release in this series. I don’t know how much involvement Too Short actually had with this one. He had verses on maybe 2 or 3 tracks and those were good, but the majority of the rest of it was terrible. There are sing-songy new rap style crap songs on here. A lot of it is basically just filler. I would have rather had a whole Too Short album instead. The beats were nothing to write home about either. They pretty much match the quality of the lyrics. All around, this was a pretty bad album. I would definitely skip over this one.

Too Short drops the next installment of his Trunk series. This was pretty much follows suit as the first edition. Too Short both creates and selects songs that definitely have a party vibe. You can almost hear all of these tracks in the club and girls twerking to them. There are some decent party rhymes throughout. The beats are definitely representative of the Bay Area and you can definitely picture them coming out the trunk hard. If you liked the first volume, there is no reason that you won’t like this second installment.

Too Short - The Trunk Vol. 2

Too Short drops off a new mixtape called The Trunk, Vol. 1 and this one definitely sounds like it came right out of the Oakland and the Bay Area. Not only does Too Short spit some pimp raps at us, but he also enlists some decent features from E-40, Trae Tha Truth, Mistah F.A.B., and more. This project definitely plays through cohesively if nothing else. All of these songs sound like they fit together and have a good theme. This is music that you would definitely have knocking through the amp in your trunk. All in all, this was a good representation of Bay Area music and Too Short is definitely keeping it rolling with these compilation mixtapes.

Too Short - The Trunk Vol. 1

Too Short drops his 21st studio album with this new offering called The Vault. It’s rather short but packs a decent Bay Area punch. First off, if you are offended by the word “bitch,” this is not the album for you. Too Short is definitely on his pimp shit and shows how dominant he is over the ladies. He spits classic pimp lines from front to back of this record. He is backed up by that classic sound that only the Bay Area can provide as well. This definitely sounds like a project you can ride to as you cruise through Oakland, Vallejo, and other areas. If you are a fan of Too Short’s classic older albums, this one should definitely satisfy you.

Too Short - The Vault

The Oakland Bay area veteran pimp Too Short is back with what I believe is his 25th studio album. Do MCs even make it that far nowadays? That in itself is a great accomplishment. Too Short sounds just as dope as he did when he first came out with his slick and straight forward pimp talk. His bars are littered with his male chauvinistic bravado which sounds great on this album. The best way to sum up this project is that it is fun. You get all kinds of songs on here. It almost sounds like a Greatest Hits or “This Is Your Life” type of album where all the greats come out to pay homage. You will hear fantastic features from Snoop Dogg, E-40, T.I., 2Chainz, and many more. Too Short created the word “beeyotch” so you know that this is a creative man. The beats on here are definitely a bar area sound. You get great pimp music and booty shaking tunes to set the party off right. This is just a great listen from beginning to end. I really think Bay area and West Coast fans will enjoy this one.

Too Short - The Pimp Tape

Too Short hits us with more of a playlist than a project. This one, while not perfect, almost sounds like the soundtrack to any strip club. If that is the goal they were shooting for on this one, then they hit the nail on the head. The album is filled with Short Dog’s sexual references and degradation of women type rhymes. For what it is, it works though. He’s been doing this forever and it is what he is known for doing. The beats sound like they would put the battery in the back of any stripper and get her right out on stage immediately. We can all appreciate that sound every now and then. Despite being called “The Sex Tape Playlist,” the project really isn’t drenched in sexual innuendo like it sounds like it would be. So you won’t get annoyed at it sounding monolithic. The absolute high point of this project is “New Bitch” by a landslide. The beat is damn near perfect and Short sounds fantastic while he tells us how he needs to get a new woman. This is a project that is definitely interesting and you might even find yourself playing this back a few times.

Too Short - The Sextape Playlist

This was a rather long release from the Bay area veteran Too Short. At 22 tracks, Too Short puts together a collection of a lot of Bay area rappers and singers to come up with this very representative mixtape. It was a pretty solid representation of that area’s sound, so if you are not familiar with it, you will get a good idea of what to expect by listening to it. Lyrically, it isn’t too complex, but at the same time, the Bay never really was known for that. The rappers on here pretty much game spit about bitches and hoes and partying. They do use some clever vocabulary that isn’t widely used and that is something that really sets the area apart from the rest of the country. The beats on here are definitely some slappers. Something you can ride around to in your scraper and ghost ride the whip to. Although it is not a great project, it is nice to see a compilation of sorts from Too Short and other Bay area rappers. It’s a decent listen.
