SLIM THUG – BIGSLIM

Slim Thug comes back around with another dope Houston project for fans. This one is pretty decent overall. He really is getting to master rapping over familiar samples and making it sound smooth. That is a huge part of what makes this album so good. His bars are definitely Texas to the core. If you take that and put it over some dope classic samples, it just sounds great no matter how you cut it. Some cuts to check for include “Driftin,” “On Go,” and “No No No.” Slim Thug continues to be a driving force of music coming out of the Texas area and keeps the sound alive at a high level. We are definitely always checking for Slim Thug.

SLIM THUG – SDS VIBES

Slim Thug drops off a new project that is some straight pimp talk towards the ladies. This one has a smooth vibe to it with a rough edge in his voice. Slim Thug is definitely all about the vibe and he creates that well with this project. The beats are strong, yet smooth as well. It is a good mix to complement his voice. The highlight of this project is “Good Life” which is a really dope beat with a good vocal sample. Another good track is “Get You Home” which is a reworking of a classic song which sample heads will recognize. All in all, Slim Thug does a great job on this new project while keeping it 100% pimp.

SLIM THUG – DOWN IN TEXAS

Slim Thug teams up with Killa Kyleon to release a brand new project that gives us another dose of the Texas hip hop sound. These two have done a lot of work together and it usually comes out pretty decent. This one is no different. Is it their best work together ever? No, but it still slaps pretty decently if you have a hankering for that Texas sound. Their bars are pretty good throughout. Slim Thug delivers his signature boss sound and Killa Kyleon gives us relentless bars in his own signature style and flow. The beats on here are pretty decent overall as well. There’s almost an old soul undertone to the samples used in some of the beats. They are laid back and prob the perfect soundtrack to consume lean and smoke to. All in all, this was a decent effort and we definitely always look forward to releases from Slim Thug and Killa Kyleon.

SLIM THUG – THUG LIFE

Slim Thug delivers a powerful new record right around the time that he had revealed that he had contracted Covid-19. First of all, prayers up to that brother for a speedy recovery from that. This new album is very dope. He has strong lyrics throughout it. With his powerful and commanding voice, he continues to show us how he reps Texas to the fullest. The beats on here are very interesting. There are a lot of old soul and R&B samples over some hard drums. This one goes pretty hard and the beats are highly produced to showcase Slim Thug at his best. The highlight of this album is the song “Thug Life (Life Is Crazy)” with it’s great sung soul sample and it’s riding feel to it. Slim Thug shines brightly for all to see. He did a great job with this album, and we hope to see more of the same come from him.

SLIM THUG – KING OF THE NAWF

The boss of the nawf is back with a new project. While this may not be Slim Thug’s best work, he is still hitting for par with this release. On the mic, you pretty much get what you expect from Slim Thug. You get the Texas rhymes with the pimped out style that you are used to. I don’t think he is really pushing the envelope with this one at all as there aren’t really any verses where you want to rewind it back. Features from Killa Kyleon are sprinkled throughout and help to change up the style a bit where needed. The beats on here are pretty decent overall. That Houston, Texas sound is showcased with tracks like “Topless” and “Big Boss Is Back.” He shines best on these 2 songs with recognizable samples. Overall, this isn’t really a standout project, but Slim Thug keeps the movement alive with this project. We’ll definitely be checking out what he does next.

SLIM THUG – SUGA DADDY SLIM: ON THE PROWL

Slim Thug releases a pimped out, smooth album for fans that is pretty darn good. Lyrically, he is just spitting game as smooth as he does. Most of the lyrical content of this project is what you would expect from a pimp’s perspective. Slim Thug has the voice that makes it sound good. The beats on here are pretty decent as well. You don’t necessarily get that Houston signature sound, but you get some good beats. Some dope songs on here include “With Me” that features Kelly Rowland. This is a pretty radio-friendly song and Kelly does a great job on the hook. “Playas Get Chose” is another dope song that features Beanz N Kornbread. This one has more of a synth-type beat and a smooth hook. The highlight of this project has to be “S.D.S.” which has more of that Houston sound that fans love. It’s a laid back, chopped & screwed type beat in which Slim Thug spits some great rhymes. Overall, this is a great album that true Texas fans will definitely vibe to.

SLIM THUG – THE WORLD IS YOURS

Slim Thug drops off a fantastic offering here. This album is really good. You can tell there is a quality on this one that is just a notch above the majority of projects out there today. The lyrics are great. Slim has that laid back and hard Houston sound that he has displayed previously but it just sounds more purposeful and flawless. He shows you just how he has been living and it sounds great. The beats on here are really polished and really on a high level of production. There are some clever old samples that are on here like on “Outstanding,” “Still,” and “Next Level.” These are just 3 dope tracks because this album pretty much plays straight through. All in all, Slim really did his thing on this one. You are really doing yourself a disservice if you don’t check out Houston’s finest on this album.

SLIM THUG & KILLA KYLEON – HAVIN THANGS 2K17

This album was pretty dope. While Houston is usually more known for it’s sound than it’s lyrics, this album does away with that notion. Killa Kyleon truly shines through on this one by giving an endless barrage of dope lyrics while being backed up pretty well by Slim Thug. The two of them lyrically destroy everything in their path on this joint while rhyming over some of today’s most popular trap beats. If you wanna hear bars and lyrics, this is definitely an album for you to check out. The beats, while they are not my favorite style, almost don’t even matter as you listen to the two of them spit over them. I think they did a fantastic job for a mixtape and I look forward to more and more work from the two Houston spitters.

SLIM THUG – WELCOME TO HOUSTON

This was a pretty decent release from Slim Thug. I had no idea this was even dropping but it was a welcome project from the sound of it. Slim Thug has a lot of good guest features on here and he definitely steps his lyrical game up a bit. This release seems to have a bit more of that classic Texas sound that we have been looking for. This was also further cemented by having the classic Houston, TX rapper guest features on it that he did. Lyrically they all are able to paint the picture of the Texas lifestyle very vividly. Slim Thug especially does this. The beats are very well put together. There was nothing that I would consider throw-away on here. Not a classic album, but definitely enough to keep the listener satisfied. I would definitely check this project out.

SLIM THUG – HOGG LIFE, VOL. 4: AMERICAN KING

This release is pretty good. Slim Thug seemed to come a little more prepared on this one. The production on this album is very good. You can definitely tell that this is more highly produced. I think he definitely came with some better rhymes this time around as well. It seems that there are more song concepts on this project. The lyrical content definitely seems to be more focused. For a highlight, I would have to say that the “Love Letter” song to his children is very inspiring. “King,” “Enemy,” and “Family” are also noteworthy. Slim Thug definitely doesn’t disappoint on this release. I don’t think he quite got to the level of his glory days back when “Already Platinum” was out, but this project definitely is striving for that type of release.

SLIM THUG – THUG THURSDAY 3

This mixtape is a standard release from Slim Thug. I don’t think it is anything special at all. Thugga has grabbed the most recent popular beats of the moment and raps over them with almost no effort at all. It’s not a terrible project but it doesn’t really push any boundaries at all. If you are a fan of Slim Thug, you can say he was shooting for par with this one. The bare minimum was achieved. The sound of his voice and his bravado raps I think are what carries him through this project. Again, I think that this is just another case of quantity beating out quality. Instead of rushing a project, take your time and make some quality product. This may possibly be just something to keep the streets fed while he works on a better project. We will hope for the best.
