NAPOLEON DA LEGEND & GIALLO POINT – BUCKETS

Napoleon Da Legend teams up with producer Giallo Point to give us another fresh batch of dope rhymes. Always flipping some dope lyrical patterns, NDL is always on point with his bars. His flow is amazing as usual all throughout this project as well. He has 2 features from Supreme Cerebral and Nejma Nefertiti. The track “Nas And AZ” that features Nejma Nefertiti is another amazing example of how well these two work together. The way they sound together is almost the same feeling you get when you hear Styles and Jadakiss rhyme together. It is like it was meant to be. The production on this album is dope as well. Giallo Point is a fantastic underground producer that has been doing his thing for quite a while. He gives us some great beats with interesting samples and definitely complements Napoleon. All in all, another strong album from Napoleon Da Legend.

NEW VILLAIN – EVIL FLOWERS IN FULL BLOOM

New Villain comes back and hits us with a pretty dope new offering. As we’ve said before, this guy is definitely chock full of potential. This newest project is 6 tracks and plays through almost like a comic book. He sets the tone with a really dope intro. This is actually one of the better intros that I have heard in a while with its movie quotes and dope beat attached to it. His bars on the next 4 tracks are pretty decent and he almost spits with a style reminiscent of Killa Sin from Killarmy. He is focused and ferocious at the same time. The beats on this project are definitely ones that pure hip hop fans will relish. We definitely wish this would have been a longer project, but he is cooking something special up.

CHINX – CR6

This is a posthumous album from the later rapper Chinx. Right off the bat, rest in peace to him and condolences to his family, friends, and fans. When you hear him rap, you can definitely understand how he was down with French Montana. Their styles were definitely very similar, and they sound a lot like each other. You’re not really going to hear any rewind-worthy bars on here. You will hear features from French Montana, Benny, MeetSims, Bynoe, Offset, and more. The production on here is pretty average and at times lackluster. All in all, this really isn’t a great album. It might appeal more to the younger crowd, but there aren’t really any jewels being dropped by Chinx on here at all.

OVERALL RATING: 1 out of 5 Cheesesteaks

STALLEY – SOMEBODY UP THERE LOVES ME

This new album from Stalley is not hitting very well. The bars are lazy and listeners won’t find themselves hitting that rewind button to hear them back over again. There really isn’t too much substance on here as well. There are no features from any rappers at all, which says a lot about this album. The beats on this project are very laid back and you definitely won’t hear a lot of boom bap on this album. Drums are at a minimum while other instruments are chosen for most beats. This one is pretty boring overall and doesn’t have much, if any replay value. I would definitely skip over this album. It’s not worth the time.

SHEEK LOUCH – BEAST MODE VOL. 5

Sheek Louch from the LOX gives us the fifth installment of his Beast Mode mixtape series. He comes at us with a forceful approach and dope bars as usual. It’s definitely always good to hear from one of the members of the LOX as they are a legendary group. You can tell he is very well respected because he has features from huge artists like Ghostface Killah, Fat Joe, M.O.P., and of course his fellow LOX brethern Jadakiss and Styles. The beats on this project are about average, but certainly not whack at all. This is a good listen for anyone that wants to hear that classic New York LOX sound.

CRIMEAPPLE – YOU’RE DEAD ALREADY

Crimeapple gives us a fresh new batch of bars with his latest release. If you know Crimeapple, you know he gets busy on the mic and that is exactly what he does on this go round. He’s definitely known for his Spanglish style of bars which he doesn’t really utilize too heavy on this one. There are no features on this album at all. The production is pretty decent and definitely gets the job done. There aren’t really any super slappers on here, but he definitely selected some dope beats for this project. All in all, this is a great job and fans will definitely respect this offering.

OPIO & THE ARCHITECT – GALAXY TOUCH

This is a quick 6 track release from Opio, a member of the legendary group Hieroglyphics, and producer The Architect. There are 4 songs and 2 instrumentals. Opio sound as great as he ever did with his unique style of rhyming and legendary voice. It’s always refreshing hearing from one of the members of the Hieroglyphics. The Architect does a good job with providing some pure hip hop sounding tracks for Opio to get busy over. This was a very quick but dope project and the only thing we can hope for is a longer project next time.

SADAT X & DOUGH NETWORKZ – SCIENCE OF LIFE

Sadat X teams up with producer Dough Networkz to give us a new album for fans to scour through. Sadat X has an uncanny way of not only sounding incredibly unique, but also dropping jewels throughout his albums. He might not be everyone’s cup of tea with his different delivery, but hip hop fans know that he is a veteran and one to respect. He has some features on this project from established acts and newcomers like Roc Marciano, Crimeapple, Planet Asia, Jay Worthy, TF, and more. The production on this album isn’t quite what I thought it would be. I was hoping for more of that boom bap East Coast sound, but there are more unique sounding samples and less drums. There are some samples that old heads will probably recognize on songs like “Niggas To Gods” and “Player Shit.” All in all, this is an album that isn’t for everyone, but real ones will get it.

CURRENSY – THE DRIVE IN THEATER PART 2

Currensy drops a pretty lengthy new project called The Drive In Theater Part 2. At 21 tracks, there was a lot of room to showcase his signature slow, Southern drawl with his opulent bars. You pretty much get what you expect from Currensy lyrically. You will also hear some features from  Fendi P, Jade Angelle, Premo Rice, and more. The beats on here are slightly laid back throughout. You aren’t really going to get any boom bap on here. It’s more of a mellow feel throughout this project. All in all, this is a pretty standard album for Currensy. Fans will definitely be feeling this one.

TROY AVE – NEW YORK CITY THE MOVIE

Troy Ave drops a new album that tries to sound better than previous releases. The part of this album that really sticks out more is the production. The beats on this album go a little harder than normal. He definitely tried to get some more boom bap style New York beats. This makes sense, because if he didn’t, why would he title the album as such? A strange move is putting the song “Classic Feel” on here which was on his 2013 album New York City. Is he acting like we haven’t heard that song before and we wouldn’t notice? Not really sure on that move. His rhymes on this new album aren’t really that good. He struggles with staying on beat so many times. The worst example of this is the song “Versace On A Monday.” This song is really cringe-worthy. I don’t know how anyone would think that is good. All in all, it’s not a great effort from Troy Ave lyrically, but the beats should take the listener through.

DAVE EAST, BUDA & GRANDZ, & DJ DRAMA – BOOK OF DAVID

Dave East and DJ Drama give us a new mixtape that fans should love. This is Dave East at his best. He’s spitting those Harlem bars with that classic New York cadence. He is definitely one of the MCs that is keeping the city alive nowadays. His flow is fantastic and he never runs out of slick lines to say. He doesn’t really have any features on here aside from some vocalists who sound great like Katt Rockell. The beats on here are fire. He really has some nice boom bap sounds with some soulful samples in there to give them breath. All in all, this is a solid record that Dave East almost handled on his own back. Fans will definitely love this one.

38 SPESH & HARRY FRAUD – BEYOND BELIEF

38 Spesh and Harry Fraud give us a brand new project that is pretty strong. 38 Spesh has such a way with words and his voice is so unique as well. He doesn’t have a problem standing out from the masses. His bars are strong all throughout this project. He has features from greats such as Conway, Jim Jones, Ransom, Benny, Currensy and more. The production on this album handled by Harry Fraud is very strong as well. He always comes through when it is time to produce an album for an artist and he does a great job at complementing their style musically. The best track on here is “Band Of Brothers” featuring Ransom and Benny. The beat is very heavy and soulful and all 3 MCs rip through their verses to show you how great they are and what a band of brothers they really are. All in all, this is a strong album that deserves a listen from people who respect hip hop.

BUSTA RHYMES – THE FUSE IS LIT EP

Busta Rhymes gives us a quick 5 track EP to keep fans engaged. As far as the rhymes go, you get the classic and powerful Busta Rhymes bars and voice that everyone loves. He rhymes at fast speed while sounding forceful. He’s got an impressive list of features even though the project is so short. You will hear from Swizz Beatz, Conway, Big Daddy Kane, Skillibeng, and Capella Grey. The beats on here are decent. You get a variety of different types of tracks for different audiences. The standout track is of course, “Slap” featuring Conway & Big Daddy Kane. To hear 3 legends on one track is pretty impressive, especially Big Daddy Kane. Busta Rhymes does a decent job with this one, but everyone knows we would have much rather gotten a full-length album. Let’s hope that there is one in the works.

TOM GIST & SAINTVILLE – ANIMAL PACK, VOL. 1

Tom Gist and Saintville deliver a new 5 track EP for fans. As far as the bars go, Tom Gist is, and always has been, fantastic. He is wise beyond his years and spits like a true veteran, even early in his career. He really needs praise for how good of an MC he is. He is complemented nicely by the other members of Saintville as well. The beats on this album are pretty standard. I wouldn’t say there is anything that really stands out, but at the same time, there is nothing whack either. While EPs have been the method of delivery for a bit now, I’d much rather see a full length, studio produced album from Tom Gist. That is what the fans need. That aside, this was a decent job by all parties involved.

LIL FLIP & CASHSTAR – MAKE IT MAKE SENSE

Lil Flip and CashStar deliver an album that is pretty standard for Lil Flip. There are 11 tracks on here in which Lil Flip gives us his regular Texas rhymes and flows. If nothing else, he is hitting for par with his delivery. The same pretty much goes for CashStar. He may not be incredible, but he gets the job done on the mic. There are features from Z-Ro, Lil Keke, Freon Icy Cold, and more. The production on this album is very similar to the vocals. There really isn’t anything incredible, but it plays through at least decently. This is a pretty standard album that fans of Lil Flip should be feeling.

MEEK MILL – FLAMERZ 5

Meek Mill drops a new project that is mainly a collection of freestyles over some current popular beats. As far as the rhymes, they pretty much all sound like throwaway rhymes. His flow is all over the place and he can’t seem to stick to the beat at all. The beats selected are pretty standard. He is rapping over a lot of the most popular beats out right now like “Wait 4 U” and “Super Gremlin.” This really isn’t one that most people will be playing back over and over again. This one really isn’t going to make a lot of noise out there at all.

VINNIE PAZ – TORTURED IN THE NAME OF GOD’S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

Vinnie Paz drops a fantastic new album for fans to revel in. Vinnie is on an incredible creative run and we are all getting to benefit from his wave of talent that is coming from him. His rhymes are powerful and forceful and he sounds just as dope as he ever has. He really has a knack for crafting the dopest sounding hardcore songs out there. He also has a plethora of slick rappers on here that make features. You will hear from Method Man, M.O.P., Ras Kass, Kurupt, Big Twins, Geechi Suede, and more. The production on here is slamming as well as Vinnie employs some of the best in the underground. C-Lance and Stu Bangas handle the majority of the production and they do a fantastic job as always. The best song on this album is “Loro Piana Robes” featuring the legendary Thirstin Howll III. I can’t even describe how much this song means having the Lo Life General team up with Vinnie Paz and rhyming over one of the dopest beats. Both MCs flow perfectly over this beat and really show us their talents at a high level. Vinnie really blessed us with this song and this whole album.

NAS – KING’S DISEASE III

Nas and Hit-Boy bring us the third chapter of the King’s Disease series and this one is as solid of a record as I have ever heard. The main component of this project is consistency. As you move from song to song, you realize how great Nas is with the lyrics in 2022. It’s effortless for him to be great. He is able to tell stories and drop jewels now just as good as he ever did. Songs like “Once A Man, Twice A Child” emphasizes how much we should appreciate our youth, because we might be old and be “childlike” yet again as someone else takes care of us. It’s really a superbly written and introspective song. “First Time” is another great song which describes the joys of hearing a newly-discovered favorite artist for the first time. Hit-Boy does another great job with the beats on this album. It’s a very cohesive album where each song sounds great and they all sound like they fit together perfectly. The magic that Nas and Hit-Boy have together is uncanny. If anyone knows hip hop, you know that Nas is a staple and is here to stay forever. He is an icon living and continues to show us that in his latest chapter of life.

GEECHI SUEDE – 19 NOTES

Geechi Suede gives us a brand new project that is pretty dope overall. He spits his smooth Camp Lo style bars over some really great production. There’s something about the Camp Lo style that is just mesmerizing to listeners. They both sound great when they get in their respective lanes. There are no features on here, but he doesn’t really need any help on here. The lyrics are smooth and keep flowing over perfect tracks. He really selects some great soul samples to flip into rap tracks. When spitting 70’s style blaxploitation bars, there really isn’t a greater sound than the music of the time. And he really selects some great tracks. If you love Camp Lo, you will definitely be digging this latest offering.

HUS KINGPIN – MY BEAUTIFUL DARK WAVE FANTASY

Hus Kingpin gives us a beautifully sounding new album that flips a lot of the music that Kanye West has used over the years. Hus has a knack of really changing up the music to the point where the original beat is all but unrecognizable. His bars on here are a lot more focused and forceful. You can almost hear his laser-like focus as he skips through his rhymes. You will hear features from SmooVth, Gripz, YaH-Ra, & Doza The Drum Dealer. The production on this album is handled by Manny Megz and several others. Most beats are pretty slamming and hard drums are definitely apparent throughout this one. The album does get a tad stranger sounding as you move into the end of it. All in all, this is definitely one of the better Hus Kingpin albums we have gotten in a long time. Fans will be pleasantly surprised.

VADO – LONG RUN VOL. 3

I love Vado and he is super dope at rhyming. This new album falls a bit flat though. He has great bars and is an expert at rhyming. That part is definitely apparent. His flow is amazing as well. These songs sound a bit more flat than usual though. I’m not 100% sure what is missing, but there is something missing. He has features from fantastic guests such as Lloyd Banks, Dave East, Jim Jones, and more. The beats on here are decent, but just don’t really stand out amongst the masses. There is almost a boredom factor with this one. I don’t want it to be like this, but it’s easy to get lost with this one. It’s almost like he is checking boxes just to make sure they are checked. I’m definitely hoping future endeavors will step up the quality factor.

LIL FLIP – FONDREN FLIP

Lil Flip delivers a new album called Fondren Flip. He has more of a laid back flow on this new project. He is still giving us those Houston, Texas style rhymes to the fullest though. You will get features from Devin The Dude, Dem Roots Music, Live Sosa, and Lashae Love. The production on here is pretty standard overall. We don’t really get a slamming Texas anthem on here, but there are some decent tracks nonetheless. All in all, it’s a pretty standard Lil Flip album. Fans will probably enjoy this one.

PLANET ASIA & SNOWGOONS – U.Z.I. (UNIVERSAL ZEITGEIST INTELLIGENCE)

Planet Asia and The Snowgoons give us an absolutely slamming new project. This one showcases Planet Asia’s skills perfectly. He flows over these boom bap beats with the greatest of ease. He never runs out of words at all and can keep flowing for eons. He just sounds so great over the beats that The Snowgoons provide. The production is a good mix between boom bap and clever samples. They really know how to complement the artists they work with and they definitely did their thing on this project. You get 6 dope tracks and the instrumental version of each one as well. Planet Asia can’t be stopped and we don’t want him to be stopped.

KILLAH PRIEST & JORDAN RIVER BANKS – MR. UNIVERSE

Killah Priest and producer Jordan River Banks provide us with another spoken word type poetry album. Killah Priest is always dope when it comes to bars. He is clearly not from this planet and he never runs out of visual, spiritual, and other-worldly things to say. He is a true philosopher of our time. Jordan River Banks provides a remarkably different, yet eerily fitting sound for Priest to rhyme over. The beats get weirder as the project goes on, but that is the dope thing about it. They don’t sound like other beats out there and that is what makes it dope and stand out. All in all, Killah Priest ain’t missing. He isn’t dropping whackness ever.

KUNIVA – THE PEOPLE’S PLAYLIST

Kuniva from D-12 drops a brand new project that is pretty sizable at 18 tracks. On this project, he really tried to press for a traditional sounding studio album and it came out pretty good overall. He has a lot of great songs that delve into a lot of different topics and have a lot of feeling to them. Proof’s passing is definitely a key topic on a few tracks on here and it is very apparent that it will always affect D-12 to the core. It really gives you a sense of what a tragic loss it was to lose Proof. Kuniva does a fantastic job at expressing all the emotions surrounding that. He gets features from a ton of artists including Swifty McVay, Jon Connor, Mr. Porter, and more. He even gets some singers like Melanie Rutherford and Mrk SX to lend their talents to hooks. The production on here is slightly above average. There are some really good beats on here and at times, I almost feel like he was pushing for some singles on these songs. There is a lot of growth and maturity on this album. Anyone interested in D-12 and their journey in this industry should definitely check out this album.
