KXNG CROOKED & JOELL ORTIZ – JFKLAX

Kxng Crooked and Joell Ortiz drop a quick 5 track EP for Slaughterhouse fans to relish in and think about the great times that used to be. I don’t even have to tell you how these two MCs do on the mic. They will annihilate anyone that steps near them. The production on this album is pretty decent. I think they selected some good beats to say what they gotta say over top of. The highlight of this project is “Foe Or Friend” which features the pair rhyming over top of the classic Jay-Z track “Friend Or Foe.” It always sounds great when top tier lyricists rhyme on classic beats. These two are definitely killing the game out there and not many rappers can keep up with them. They only thing I wanted was a full length album instead of an EP.

ROME STREETZ & BIG GHOST LTD – WASN’T BUILT IN A DAY

The almighty Rome Streetz links up with producer Big Ghost Ltd to give us a dope new project for the streets. On the mic, Rome Streetz is magical. He is a force to be reckoned with and can spit rhymes like no other out there today. He is the freshest voice out there and I really hope his legend just keeps growing in the hip hop community. For features, he selects some of the best out there like Method Man, Conway, Lukey Cage, Swab, and more. The production on here is dope coming from Big Ghost Ltd, but I don’t think it’s the absolute best he could do. I was almost hoping for more of the sound found on Crimeapple’s Aguardiente album with harder drums. Don’t get me wrong, this album is still dope, but I just really wanted the best beats out there for Rome Streetz. All in all, this is a really tight album that will have you spinning it back more than a few times to hear what Rome Streetz is saying.

D.V. ALIAS KHRYST – M.I.N.G. SEASON VOL. 1

D.V. Alias Khryst comes out with a dope and fresh new project for the streets. This definitely plays through like a mixtape with a big mix of songs sprinkled with a few freestyles. On the mic, DV is focused and the thing that stands out most is his powerful voice. He has got to be one of the top 5 of all time when it comes to unique voices. I actually think this project gets better as you listen through it. The last 7 songs are probably some of the best on the album with “No Apology Letters” featuring Trife Diesel and “Unrecognized” featuring Lovel standing out the most. DV really seems to be able to craft some great sounding songs and I really hope that this leads to a full length studio album soon. He’s got it in him to make greatness and it is definitely evident on this project. 2 L’s Up Forever. You already Lo.

CHE NOIR & BIG GHOST LTD – NOIR OR NEVER

Che Noir teams up with producer Big Ghost Ltd to give us a quick, but slamming new project. On the mic, Che Noir is talented and also personal with the perfect blend of the two. She bears her soul and also keeps it dope for the streets. You will hear features from Flee Lord, Planet Asia, Skyzoo, Ransom, and more. The production on here is pretty good as well. Big Ghost does a decent job on the boards by giving us subtle heat with some good instrumentation. The highlight on here is “Sleep paralysis” featuring Flee Lord & D-Styles. The pounding drums mixed with Flee Lord and Che Noir’s direct rhymes really showcase the best of this album.

FROST GAMBLE – SLUM LUXURIOUS (ODDS & ENDS PART 2)

Frost Gamble drops off a quick compilation EP with a good mix of artists on it. If you are familiar with the work of Frost Gamble, then you should already know that he is great on the boards and really provides us with a great landscape of music for artists to get busy on. On this project, you will hear features from Tone Chop, Jus One, Awful P, Sarah Lee, Stacey James, and more. I think with this project, you get a good mix of rap songs and even some vocal performances from some singers. It’s really a good showcase of Frost Gamble’s talents. This is a good effort and you can really hear the talent showcased rather nicely throughout the short project. We definitely look forward to more work from Frost Gamble in the future.

MACKLEMORE – BEN

Macklemore drops a brand new album after a pretty long hiatus. This one is a bit of a mixed bag. You have some songs that are straight up hip hop and other songs that just don’t seem to fit in. There are times on the album where you take him seriously as a rapper and other times you don’t. Songs like “Heroes” which is produced by DJ Premier sound great because that’s what happens when you get the greatest producer of all times. “I Need” and “Lost” are great social commentary songs by taking a look at what we think we need in society and what we think is important to us as a whole. They are rather introspective songs. “Faithful” and “Tears” are deeply personal songs where Macklemore discusses addictions and troubles relating to those. All in all, it’s not really a bad album, but it’s not really great either. This is one of those albums that seems important, but you probably won’t find a ton of people replaying it.

CANIBUS & JOHNNY SLASH – SELF LICKING ICE CREAM CONE

Canibus releases a new project with help from producer Johnny Slash. On the mic, Canibus is magical and splendid as usual. He has always been one of the G.O.A.T.s and really never disappoints too much with his mind-bending bars. The problem he has mostly suffered from is being able to lock down great production. Johnny Slash comes in on this project to hopefully alleviate that problem. He offers some more boom bap beats that Canibus sounds better over top of. Overall, it lifts the general level of his music and it is good to hear Bis over some better beats. Add on some great features from Killah Priest, Ras Kass, Kurupt, Kool G Rap, Chris Rivers, and more, and you have a great project for fans of bars to digest. All in all, Canibus has a really good project here and will hopefully continue to move in this lane in the future. Thank you Bis.

THA GOD FAHIM – IRON BULL

Tha God Fahim drops a strong new album with this latest release. It seems he has upped the level of his lyrical ability with his bars showcased on this one. His flow is always dope, but he just has some intangible thing on this new album. He definitely went to the next level on this one. Not that he needs help at all, but you will hear guest features from Your Old Droog, Mach Hommy, and Jay Nice. The beats on here are pretty decent overall as well. The beats may not be classic, but they are certainly strong. All in all, this is one of the better Fahim albums. He definitely deserves some recognition for this one.

HELL RAZAH & ROADSART – RENAISSANCE ART

Hell Razah and Roadsart team up again for another project. I think some of the songs may be recycled from past projects, but nevertheless, it still sounds pretty decent. On the mic, Hell Razah spits those spiritual and biblical bars that we have all grown accustomed to. He has features from Deniro, Eloheem Team, and Oksajin. The production on this project is pretty dope overall. Roadsart gives us some hard drums and some soulful samples so that we can truly feel the music. All in all, these two artists bless us with another dope project.

NEW VILLAIN & TRUECIPHER – BANKAI

New Villain teams up with producer TrueCipher to give us a super quick new EP that is dope overall. There are only 5 tracks on here plus an intro and outro. On the mic, New Villain’s flow is great. I think that is definitely his strong suit and that is what is going to appeal to most. The content on this one might be a little too out there, possibly for only the Anime community, and most might not be able to understand. He does have features from Sphere47, Saint Francis MH, and El-Nuri. The production on here is pretty good. He definitely always selects some interesting, but slapping beats to rhyme over. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, New Villain is definitely one on the rise and an MC to look out for.

LOGIC – COLLEGE PARK

Logic, the seemingly retired rapper, drops a new project that I’m sure his fans will love. To me, this album fell pretty much flat. On the mic, it seems he is just spitting bars just to spit bars with no real purpose. There really wasn’t anything I viewed as “timeless lyrics” on here. You are pretty much going to listen to these and then forget afterwards. You will hear features from RZA, Redman, Bun B, and Joey Badass somehow. You will also hear from his own crew including C Dot Castro, Big Lenbo, ADE, and more. The beats on here are pretty average. There are certainly some beats that are more salvageable than others, but they are all at least somewhat decent. All in all, this was a pretty lackluster album. You aren’t really going to have a whole lot of replay value here.

BIZARRE – 18159 STOUT

What more can you say about Bizarre? Whack rhymes. Across the board, it is whack rhymes every time. You get features from some other random rappers by the names of Gam, Big T, Takova, Rachel Ray, Kane Cole, and more. The beats on here probably aren’t too bad overall. Some of them probably could have been good for a skilled rapper to use. The highlight of this album is the posse cut “May 2828.” The beat really bounces pretty well and all of the MCs on the track (minus Bizarre) do their thing on there. They are floating on the track. All in all, this is a pretty whack album. Just download the above-mentioned track and that will pretty much be the only thing you need to hear.

KXNG CROOKED – DEAR CALIFORNIA

Kxng Crooked aka Crooked I drops a quick EP in dedication of the love for California. On this project, he has 5 new songs and 1 spoken intro. As far as the bars go, you should already know how Crooked I operates. He has some of the best bars that you will today in rap music. He showcased that on every single song he has ever done. This new project is obviously no different. There are no features on here as there really isn’t much room to feature anyone. The production is okay and definitely has a slight West Coast slant to it. I wouldn’t have liked to hear Crooked over some more G-Funk type of records if he was going to call the project Dear California. All in all, it’s not his best project ever, but it’s always good to hear some Crooked I verses.

SLIM THUG – WHERE DREAMS ARE MADE

Slim Thug drops a quick new album with 9 new tracks for fans. Sugar Daddy Slim, as he calls himself for his alter ego, is definitely on the prowl on this latest offering. His smooth rhymes and his deep voice are directed right at the ladies to make him fall under his spell. There are no other features on here, so it is just Slim rhyming. The beats are also smooth with some clever samples to give them that right touch of funk. Slim Thug did a good job with this one and we always look forward to hearing new material from him.

TY FARRIS – NO COSIGN JUST COCAINE 5

Ty Farris returns with mind-bending bars on this fifth installment of his No Cosign Just Cocaine series. With the pen, it is hard to find a rapper more focused than Ty Farris. He has bar after bar and line after line that you will find yourself rewinding back to see what the hell he just said. It really is uncanny how great of an MC he is. Not that he even needs help, but you will hear features from Jae Skeese, Daniel Son, Pro Dillinger, and more. For production, he gets beats from a wide array of beat-smiths like Trox, Wino Willy, Bozack Morris, and more. Out of the whole series, I’m not quite sure these were the best beats out of the bunch, but they made do. All in all, this is a pretty solid album for Ty Farris. His rhymes stand out like a shining sun and definitely steal the show. The man has an incredible work ethic and it is really showing.

TROY AVE – TROY AVE, VOL. 3

Troy Ave drops a measly 3 songs with this new EP. The track “Belly Of The Beast” has a super hard beat. I definitely wish that more Troy Ave songs were like this one because this is what made him shine in the first place. The other 2 tracks are pretty decent as well. The rhymes are sufficient and the production is pretty good as well. Why can’t more Troy Ave albums be like this one was? Let’s get longer projects of more quality songs and he might be cooking with something here.

WILLIE THE KID & V DON – BLUE NOTES 2

Willie The Kid teams up with producer V Don to give us another dope trek through their partnership. Although a relatively quick album, it plays through rather well. On the mic, Willie is all business and shows you how elegant and exquisite his rhymes are. You will hear features from Ransom, Flee Lord, Ankhlejohn, and a few others. The beats are decent and play through rather well given the vocals. I’d say the 2 match up rather well and it’s a good listening experience. Although it’s quick, it’s a decent listen and another brick on the house that Willie The Kid built.

AGALLAH – ENDANGERED SPECIES PROTOCOL

Agallah releases another new project entitled Endangered Species Protocol. Overall, this one is pretty lackluster. The rhymes are about what you would expect from Agallah. There really isn’t anything that is going to be rewind-worthy. You will hear features from rappers named Dirty, Popoff, Sosa Stacks Ransom, and others that you probably haven’t heard of. The production on here is pretty lackluster as well. There is one beat that stands out crazily amongst all of the others. “Serve” has an amazing beat that is just fantastic. Agallah sounds really good over this one. If he would get some more beats like that one, he would really be cooking. Sadly, the album falls flat on a lot of counts.

TONY YAYO – THE LOYAL

G-Unit member Tony Yayo drops a brand-new album that is definitely for the streets. With the bars, Tony Yayo has never been afraid to “go there.” He will say some wild stuff that shows how desperate the streets can be. In a lot of his bars, he will make really dope and extreme depictions of what can happen living that gangster lifestyle. You will hear great features from Lloyd Banks and Nems and lackluster features from Pressa and TyDaG. The beats on this one are pretty decent overall. I don’t think you are really going to get anything super classic, but they get the job done. The highlight is “Rocket Chamber” with Lloyd Banks that is reminiscent of old school pairings of the G-Unit members and sounds really dope with great lyrics from both MCs. All in all, this was a decent offering from Tony Yayo. I think he has a lot of potential to make a really dope album and I hope he keeps blessing us with more.

HORSE SHOE GANG – DEME LOVEWIN KENNY

Horse Shoe Gang is now down to a trio , but they are still spitting complex bars that will surely make your head spin. Upon listening to their rhymes, you definitely find yourself rewinding the track back to understand what they just said. This happens more than a few times. Even though this new project is pretty short at only 7 tracks, they waste no time in doing what they do best. You do get a feature from both Dice and Crooked I on the last track “Nice Me.” The beats on here are pretty standard. I think you get what you expect on the production side of things. All in all, this is a quick, but pretty dope project. It sucks that they are down to a trio, but it is always good to hear from the Horse Shoe Gang.

GOLD CHAIN MUSIC – CHAIN REACTION

Planet Asia and company deliver a new album that is very versatile. There are a lot of different styles and sounds on here for fans to comb through. If you are familiar with Planet Asia, you already will know how great he is on the mic. It seems that he never runs out of bars and that is a good thing. On this project, you will hear from fellow co-conspirators K. Burns, Tristate, Montage One, YaH-Ra, and more. You really get a good overview of what a lot of the other rappers on the Gold Chain Music imprint sound like. The beats on here are pretty dope as well. There is a good mix of different sounding kinds of beats that fans will get on here. There are even some dope samples that heads will recognize. “Chain Way” has a fantastic old school sample and “Keep It Gold” has another familiar sample to listening ears. All in all, this was a pretty decent collaboration album. Gold Chain Music is keeping it rolling with some quality product.

DOM PACHINO – TERRORIST SHIT!

Dom Pachino drops a brand-new album called Terrorist Shit! This one is pretty standard for him and definitely carries on in the Killarmy tradition. The most impressive part of this project is that it is completed 100% by himself with only one feature from Bugsy Da God. Pachino wrote, produced, recorded, mastered, and released this all by himself which is rare to find these days. As far as the rhymes go, these may not be the best rhymes you have ever heard, but if you are familiar with Killarmy, you will definitely appreciate his style. The production is decent throughout. He even intertwines some dope vocal samples and singing into some of the beats. All in all, this is a pretty good Dom Pachino record. If you are a fan of Killarmy, you will definitely be feeling this one.

NEJMA NEFERTITI & ZENATI – RAPOEIRA

Nejma Nefertiti teams up with producer Zenati to give us a dope new project that is hip hop to its core. There are 4 songs and 5 interludes alternating between producer and rapper. On the mic, Nejma Nefertiti is as dope as they come. Her bars are great and her flow is even better. She is a surgeon on the mic and deserves to be known to the masses. Zenati does a great job at providing the soundscape for Nejma to do her thing over. There are dope beats for the rhymes and more musical sessions for the interludes. All in all this was a dope project. I would have liked it to be longer so we could get a full-length album to hear more greatness.

MYALANSKY – M.E.D.U.S.A.

Myalansky from the Wu-Syndicate drops a new solo album that may not fit into the mainstream as well as casual rap fans would like, but it still has some notable moments to share. On the mic, you pretty much get what you would expect from the Wu-Syndicate member. His voice is that powerful and quiet force that drives his lyrics home. The beats on here are a bit darker and more mysterious and wouldn’t get played on radio. There are a few songs in which he gives us a history lesson. He dives into Greek mythology with descriptive rhymes and even skits about Medusa. These songs, namely “Medusa” and “Gorgan” are pretty dope and stand out amongst the rest. All in all, it’s not your standard rap album, but Myalansky showcases his talent here.

He is always flipping words all over the place to show us how great he is and how he is better than his competition. He really is one of the masters of the braggadocio style in hip hop. He has features from RLX and BoriRock on “Together.” The production on this project is pretty dope overall. There are a lot of dope samples and some good instrumentation. The drums are a bit light, but it still sounds dope. Overall, this was a pretty decent Crimeapple project. It might not be hist best, but this is quality product.
