Smif N Wessun are back with a new album after a very long hiatus and they sound like the polished vets that they have become. Underrated is probably a good word for not only this duo, but the whole Boot Camp Clik as a whole. They have been continuously releasing quality music, but are somehow left out of the conversations of rap’s finest. This new album shows the duo’s growth and commitment to quality. Their rhymes are pretty well structured throughout the album, at times getting very deep and vulnerable. They show a more thoughtful side on songs like “Dream Land” and “Letter 4 U.” On the production side, they definitely give some bangers like “Testify,” the title track “The A.L.L.,” and “StahfAllah.” The beats are on here are pretty well crafted while still incorporating melodic moments especially on the hooks. All in all, I think they did a good job on this album. They tried to cover all bases and I definitely think they succeeded.

Vado drops off his third installment of his V-Day series EPs a bit late this year. They usually drop around Valentine’s Day, but this one was a few weeks late. The overall vibe of this album, a bit more laid back and grim. Instead of up tempo, lighter songs, Vado is giving us much more heavy content and darker beats. As far as his rhymes, they are definitely high level. He has always been a spitter and continues to do so on this project. The beats could have been a bit better, but they’re not bad by any means. The standout song is probably “Talk To Me” featuring Dream Doll. This one definitely sounds the most like a single. Another honorable mention goes to “Same Bitch” which features Dave East. Both MCs do a great job with the rhymes while spitting over an AraabMuzik beat, which all but sounds like an old Diplomats beat. This is one of the better sounding songs on this project. I  hope to see a longer full length release from Vado with some better beats, but he did his thing on here nonetheless.

DJ Muggs and Eto from Rochester, NY put out a project called Hell’s Roof and there’s basically two sides to this project. On the lyrical side, I didn’t really get too much out of it. I would say Eto is pretty average on the mic. He’s not bad, but there really isn’t too much to take away lyrically. His voice is decent and his flow works pretty well. I think he just needs to step it up a bit with the wordplay. Not a bad job though. The production side of this project is the part that shines more. DJ Muggs definitely keeps the beats dark, hard, and menacing. There are definitely some hard beats on here. Overall, I think this project was pretty middle of the road. Not a bad attempt at all, but definitely some room to grow. I’ll definitely be checking out more in the future.

Smoovth releases a new project that is fairly dope overall. On the mic, he has a smooth delivery (just as his name infers). His flow is becoming more and more refined over time. It’s good to see the growth of talented MCs. I think he has a ways to go yet, but he is definitely getting there. The beats on this album are definitely the more shining piece to this project. You definitely get some harder beats with clever samples that have a soul behind them. You get a ton of different producers on most of the tracks, yet it seems like the album is pretty cohesive which is a tough thing to pull off. Fans of SmooVth will definitely appreciate this effort. It is pretty well put together.

This was a pretty average release for Hus Kingpin. Lyrically, you get what you expect on this one. There really isn’t anything whack, but there isn’t anything mind-blowing either. The beats on this album pretty much follow the same theme. The beats are decent, but I really don’t think it’s anything that is going to get any hefty rotation. The best track on this EP is “Only For Pretty Girls” which features Supreme Cerebral. This beat is pretty slamming and both MCs trade verses rather well. Hus Kingpin is pretty dope. Hopefully this EP is something to keep fans satisfied until we get the next full length release.

Somehow I missed this release from back in 2018. The Horse Shoe Gang is definitely a collection of some very talented spitters so I usually try to stay on top of the releases, but this one got past me. This project just didn’t live up to their normal standard. It’s not that it is whack at all, it definitely is dope on the lyrical tip. There really aren’t many MCs out there that can spit like they do. I think the problem might be with the song themes or song structure. A lot of the tracks on here are just about smashing chicks. It’s fine to put that out on a song, but to hear it over and over again can definitely get repetitive. Change up the subject matter. Make a complete project. Show a lot of different angles and views on things. Open up to the audience. One track that did that was “House Keys.” This is a song about trying to get out of an apartment and own a house. This is a perfect song for the vast majority to relate to. “I Deserve Heaven” is another creative song on here in which they rap about the prospect of going to heaven which is another song that anyone can relate to. The beats on here were pretty average. There really wasn’t any West Coast riding music which is something that they really need to incorporate in their music. I think they would sound great over some G-Funk. All in all, it wasn’t a bad album, I just would have liked to see more creativity and better sounding songs. Give us a lil something to ride to.

Czarface teams up with their Wu-Tang brethren Ghostface Killah for another dope installment of what they do best. With this album, they take all of their strengths as a collective and just amplify them. The best part of this album is definitely the lyrical side of things. Esoteric sounds like he is at the top of his game on here with his effortless flow. The exact same can be said Inspectah Deck. He is able to just ride the beat flawlessly. It’s almost like both MCs were trying to outdo each other on here which is great competition. They spit their rhymes laced with classic vintage 80s and 90s name drops of nerd nostalgic things just as they have on past projects. You mix Ghostface into this and you get a great outcome. The beats are pretty dope on here as well. It almost reminded me of beats that you would hear on a Run The Jewels project. I think they are paving their own lane sonically and it sounds great. Definitely a fresh, but hard sound on this record. While there is not really a “single” sounding song on here, you do get hard beats and fantastic rhymes which everyone should enjoy.
