Legendary rhymer Canibus teams up with legendary producer Pete Rock to give us a quick new EP of some of the work that they have. There are 3 new songs and acapella and instrumental versions of 2 of the songs. There is even a feature from Bronze Nazareth on there as well. On the mic, Canibus is as sharp as he ever was laying down insanely well-thought-out rhymes. Pete Rock does a solid job on the boards as well making it easy for Canibus to flow. All in all, this was an interesting matchup taht I wouldn’t have predicted. I will gladly take more if they are serving it up though.

Flee Lord is back again this time teaming up with legendary producer Pete Rock for yet another really solid project. As far as the bars, Flee Lord definitely does his thing as usual. He offers strong bars with conviction. Pete Rock provides some great beats for the backdrop to this project. There are some really hard drums sprinkled throughout and that really sets Flee Lord up for success as that really matches his style. I think Flee Lord is really setting in as far as his pace. He is releasing product at break neck speed and he seems to be pretty consistent which can be rare nowadays. All in all, another good project from the Griselda member.

Camp Lo teams up with Pete Rock for another fantastic mixtape expedition. Walking 80 blocks from Tiffany’s is a great journey and if this is the soundtrack, I’m all in. Pete Rock does a fantastic job on the boards. Would you really expect anything different from the legendary producer? His beats have that signature Pete Rock sound but also complement the Camp Lo Style perfectly. Camp Lo, while they have gotten older since the “Luchini” days, still sound great on the mic. They mix that 70’s blaxploitation vibe with some slick rap lines and turn out some really great bars. You get great features from M.O.P., Talib Kweli, Uncle Murda, and more. This one definitely plays through very well front to back. The highlight on here is “No Uniform” featuring M.O.P. The beat is absolutely slamming. All the rappers sound great with their flows. The hook is amazing and catchy. You simply can’t go wrong here. This is a fantastic effort by all involved.

An unlikely pairing of Smoke DZA and Benny the Butcher somehow has come to light and it is pretty slamming. They join forces with Pete Rock to make a very quick and very dope EP. At only 6 songs, there’s not a lot of time to get the point across, but they definitely get the job done. The bars are definitely very strong. A lot of times when MCs team up, they feed off each other’s energies and try to outdo the other and that is exactly what happened on this one. Benny has really slick drug bars while Smoke DZA complements him with his own dope flow. He actually sounded better than I remember him sounding on previous releases. With the legendary Pete Rock on the boards, you can’t go wrong. There are some real bangers on here so y’all should really enjoy this one.

The flow master Skyzoo teams up with the legendary beat producer Pete Rock to give us a fantastically funky journey here with this release. You won’t hear this one on the radio and that is a damn shame. Skyzoo raps his ass off as usual and is an absolute expert with his flow. A lot of MCs should strive to have a cadence like his. You match that with the musical genius of Pete Rock who has been making quality rap beats forever and you have a dope mixture on hand. Pete Rock gives us more of his signature sound that is just jazzy enough and just hip hop enough to sound brilliant. Hip Hop fans will definitely rejoice with this one. Give this one more than a few listens.

Skyzoo & Pete Rock - Retropolitan

This is a very straightforward and dope release. There really isn’t too much to say about it. You get 8 tracks all together. 4 actual songs. 2 produced by DJ Premier and 2 produced by Pete Rock. You also get the instrumental versions of all 4 songs. The tracks are super dope. Why wouldn’t they be? That’s what happens when you get 2 of the greatest producers in hip-hop history. Edo G is not the best rapper ever but he can definitely flow and he gets busy on these tracks. If you like dope NY hip-hop, you must listen to this.

Edo G - DJ Premier vs. Pete Rock

This project was a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand you have Smoke DZA who is not very good lyrically and on the other hand you have one of the best producers ever with Pete Rock. So add these two together and you get an average project. The standout thing to me about this project is clearly the production. Pete Rock made some slamming beats for this album. It’s just a shame that Smoke DZA wasn’t able to rhyme better over them. There are some decent features on here as well which fills in some of the gaps that Smoke DZA leaves but it doesn’t completely make up for his faults. Although it is painful to listen to Smoke, I’d say that you have to give this one a chance though just to hear the genius of Pete Rock on production.
