Locksmith is so underrated as an MC, it isn’t even funny. What this man can do with words is incredible. A lot of rappers out there just be talking just to talk. Locksmith really sits down and thinks about what he is going to say and does it in a really hi-tech and skillful way. He is basically ivy league if such a thing exists in hip hop. This latest album is pretty dope overall. He touches on some important topics throughout the project. “Lemme Breathe” examines the police actions in communities. “Planned Parenthood” examines abortion and takes a deep look at that topic. All in all, Locksmith really holds a microscope to social issues and I’d almost argue that there isn’t anyone doing it better than him out there. The only downfall I see is that some fans might not see a lighter side of Locksmith. He definitely gets serious and that is needed, it’s just that some fans might want more from him than just that. This is a dope offering though.

Locksmith gives us a heaping helping of new tracks with this latest project. At 18 tracks, there are plenty of instances on here where Locksmith shows us how good of a lyricist he really is. He poignantly explains a lot of civil issues in America today and you’d be hard-pressed to find a rapper that does it better. I’d almost say that Locksmith is TOO GOOD at rapping. He has such a clear and complex way of constructing his bars. The beats on here are decent overall. I don’t think there were any standout production moments, but it was still a good listen. There are a few notable moments on here. The first track “With God” features Xzibit, Ras Kass, and vocalist Brevi on a really dope song. “Trump vs. Biden” and “2nd Amendment” are 2 more really fantastically written songs. “Trump vs. Biden” is a theoretical debate between the two presidential candidates that sounds scarily accurate. All in all, Locksmith does a great job and he continues to show why he is one of the best lyricists out there today. The only downfall that I really heard on here was that some of the tracks can get repetitive after a while and you can lose your focus as the listener. That aside, he did a pretty good job.

Locksmith comes through with a brand new project that is quite interesting. On the mic, Locksmith is a genius. Not only can he spit some very well thought-out and intelligent rhymes, he can also do it at break-neck speed. He is a true magician on the mic and it is incredible how well he can rhyme. The production on this album was a bit different from normal. It’s almost as if he tried to experiment a little bit by selecting different-sounding beats. All of them have a just a small bit of weirdness to them to make them different. They aren’t whack at all. It’s just that this is something moving in a bit of a different direction. I don’t know if I was 100% down with the direction, but on a base level, they were decent. If you are to take something home from this project, it is going to be some heavy jewels and Locksmith is fantastic at giving those out.

The West Coast lyricist Locksmith is back with a new album. This one was decent. As far as lyrics go, he is really on point. You can’t deny that this dude can spit. The way he puts his bars together is incredible. One thing I would have liked to have seen more of is more themes to the songs. At some points on the album, it just felt as if he was giving us a stream of consciousness as opposed to a focused goal of the song. That aside, he is able to craft his rhyme schemes very cleverly. The beats on this album were okay as well. I don’t think there was anything that really stood out on the production side. That’s not to say it is bad or whack. They basically just shot for par with the beats. The standout track overall is “Prison.” In this one, he gives a very scathing and truthful view of the media, the government, the internet, and other issues today. His second verse on here is just impeccable. I’d definitely check this one out if you are in the mood to get into something new and dope.

This was a fantastic EP from 2 underrated talents in the rap game. Locksmith is an incredible lyricist that is criminally¬†slept on. He can construct some supreme bars and chances are you probably haven’t heard of him. He gives an introspective look at his life and his thought process on this short offering. Apollo Brown’s name should speak for itself if you are familiar with his work. He brings vintage and soulful boom bap beats with fantastic samples to back up any quality MC out there. It only made sense for these 2 to make a project together. The only real beef I have with this project is that it wasn’t long enough. I wanted to hear more from them. A full length album would have been great. Nonetheless, they did a fantastic job. The highlight is probably the song “Litmus” where Locksmith shows you why he is so great at crafting rhymes. Although this project was released among the likes of Jay-Z and Nas with their albums, don’t let this one slip through the cracks and get lost in the shuffle. You need to hear this.
