KILLAH PRIEST & JORDAN RIVER BANKS – MR. UNIVERSE

Killah Priest and producer Jordan River Banks provide us with another spoken word type poetry album. Killah Priest is always dope when it comes to bars. He is clearly not from this planet and he never runs out of visual, spiritual, and other-worldly things to say. He is a true philosopher of our time. Jordan River Banks provides a remarkably different, yet eerily fitting sound for Priest to rhyme over. The beats get weirder as the project goes on, but that is the dope thing about it. They don’t sound like other beats out there and that is what makes it dope and stand out. All in all, Killah Priest ain’t missing. He isn’t dropping whackness ever.

KILLAH PRIEST – MOTHER

Killah Priest releases a new project that is essentially an ode to his mother. Throughout the album, there are messages to and from his mother that serve as a backdrop in between songs. His otherworldly bars are probably best described as “space poetry.” This project definitely sounds more of a collection of poetry than an actual rap album, even though KP’s bars are top notch. On the production side of things, he trades in the boom bap beats for more piano-laden, laid-back vibes to rhyme over. All in all, if you love Killah Priest, you will probably be feeling this album as well.

KILLAH PRIEST – HORRAH SCOPE

Killah Priest drops a new project that almost plays through as more of a poetry album than anything else. His pen game is so out of this universe that it is uncanny at how great he is. He truly is a prophet in this modern day world. He tells great stories with amazing detail to every part of the story. He weaves Biblical and old world references all throughout his bars. The production is very simplistic on here. It is mostly shallow musical selections at times being as simple as just a piano. It is a shame that works of art like this aren’t made more widely available. He always does a great job with his works though.

KILLAH PRIEST & HOLOCAUST (WARCLOUD) – SAVAGE SANCTUARY

Killah Priest teams up with Holocaust aka Warcloud to bring us a decent new offering. It almost seems like it’s been forever since we heard from Holocaust but then again, I may have been out of the loop. His voice alone is just so dope. Killah Priest has been on a rampage dropping albums so why not drop a collab album? All in all, this one is pretty decent. Killah Priest probably outshines on the microphone but Holocaust does a decent job as well. They have a ton of features on here, most notably, the other members of the 4 Horsemen: Canibus, Kurupt, and Ras Kass. The production is about average and what you would expect to hear on this type of record. They did a decent job overall and it is good to hear some blasts from the past.

KILLAH PRIEST – THE THREE FANTASTIC SUPERMEN EPICS

Killah Priest drops off a super quick 6 track EP. This one is really fast and just more dope bars from the wordsmith himself. The bars are top notch. The beats are pretty standard as far as a Killah Priest record goes. There really isn’t too much to say about this one other than that fans will appreciate. It is over before you know it though.

KILLAH PRIEST & S.H.R.O.O.M. – THE MANTRA

Killah priest teams up with producer S.H.R.O.O.M. to give us a brand new album filled with top tier street biblical bars as he usually does. Killah Priest is definitely one of the best to ever do it and every album he releases, he shows us why again and again. The only 2 rapping verse features you will get are from Cappadonna and Inspectah Deck. This album starts out pretty hard with some slamming beats in the form of the first two songs “Sleepin On A Cloud” and “Food.” The album seems to go into a more low-key and dreamy style and then ramps up again on the final song “Ben Walter” with its hard drums. It definitely flows like a wave going up, then down, then up again. Not sure if this was by design, but it definitely sounds like it was intended to be that way. All in all, this is a decent album and another brick on the wall that Killah Priest built.

KILLAH PRIEST & SHAKA AMAZULU THE 7TH – RAGNAROK

Killah Priest teams up with producer Shaka Amazulu The 7th to give us a different album than what we are used to hearing from Killah Priest. As far as the rhymes, Killah Priest is always on point. He probably never spit a whack verse in his life and you can’t coach other-worldly greatness. There are features from Planet Asia, Hus Kingpin, Tragedy Khadafi, Timbo King, The Holocaust, and many more. The part that really makes this album sound different is the beats. We’re used to hearing a very different sound for Killah Priest and Shaka Amazulu brings almost more of a traditional song sound to each beat. It’s almost like he was trying to go for more “songs” than just KP spitting bars. All in all, it’s a decent album, it’s just going to be a shock to the system for KP fans.

KILLAH PRIEST – SUMMER END CAFE

Killah priest drops a strange new album. This one didn’t really sound similar to a lot of his other albums. On the mic, he is skilled as ever and spits those mythical and majestic bars that we have grown accustomed to. The themes are just a little different on this new one. He almost takes us to another time period like back in the 1930s during the world fairs. A perfect example of this would be “Wimbledon 1936” in which he tells a story about being at the tennis tournament. This in itself is so fresh and so new. Not many other rappers would separate themselves from the pack and do this, but Killah Priest isn’t scared. He does it fantastically and it comes out great. The production on here is definitely strange as well. There are a lot of old vocal samples throughout that give it a very old sound. Even with all of this, it’s still dope at it’s core because Killah Priest is a genius and is always in control of putting out dope content. You will definitely want to check out this latest project.

FOUR HORSEMEN – THE LAST RIDE

Canibus, Killah Priest, Kurupt, and Ras Kass combine forces once again to form the epic and legendary Four Horsemen for the creation of another album. You already know that this one is going to be an onslaught of bars and all 4 MCs definitely do their thing when it comes to delivering the lyrics. Ras Kass really shines through the most out of all but Kurupt has some strong performances as well. The beats on here are okay. I do feel like they could have made better selections for such a monumental album, but they are still pretty good if nothing else. “Believer” is one of the strongest records on this album. It definitely has a theme throughout of the four horsemen of the apocalypse coming to end the world which pretty much makes sense for a project like this. The fans of bars out there will definitely not want to miss this one.

KILLAH PRIEST – LORD SUN HEAVY MENTAL 1.1

Killah Priest unearths a sacred new project for fans of his. His bars on this project are definitely next level as you can tell he is really putting his all into this one. He really sounds like he went and studied all of the sacred lost books of knowledge for the human species and was locked in a library for several lifetimes. These are bars that are not meant for everyone, but the ones that can appreciate will definitely get it. The beats on here are not your standard rap beats at all. These are the sounds captured in outerspace and what it would sound like if you could listen to the universe. This album is fantastic and while the casual rap fan won’t appreciate, the real bar heads will definitely get it. Long Live Killah Priest.

KILLAH PRIEST & TRUE MASTER – DIVINE INTERVENTION

Killah Priest teams up with True Master to give us a very quick new offering. These are some more other-worldy rhymes from the psychic mind of Walter Reed. Killah Priest gives us fantastic bars that are pulled in a wonderful balance from ancient scriptures and from the streets. True Master gives us some decent beats on the production side of things. I don’t think that there is anything Earth-shattering there, but at the same time, he’s definitely hitting for par. Even though this project was very quick, it’s a decent listen especially for people who are fans of Killah Priest’s bars.

KILLAH PRIEST & JORDAN RIVER BANKS – THE THIRD EYE IN TECHNICOLOR

Killah Priest joins forces with Jordan River Banks again for another phenomenal album. This one is really out of this galaxy in a good way. This is like the soundtrack for astronauts travelling out of our atmosphere and going to other galaxies far beyond human comprehension. Killah Priest is a wizard with the bars. He has never spit a whack verse ever and he doesn’t start now. He sounds re-energized on this latest offering. The beats are just so far above the normal trash that is out there. Jordan River Banks did a fantastic job creating this project. The highlight of this project is “Nag Champa Cones.” It is a crowning achievement in production and sounds so regal. Killah Priest absolutely bodies the odd track. Another highlight is “Towards The Summit” with its dope production as well. They really outdid themselves on this project and they should be very proud of themselves.

KILLAH PRIEST – ROCKET TO NEBULA

Killah Priest comes right back at us with another fantastic solo album. This one he really dug deep in his book of rhymes and brought out another mystical space quest for all of the bar heads to revel in. It really is uncanny how great of a writer Killah Priest is. He literally takes us to other worlds with his raps and this album is no different. Every bar is literally on another planet (in a good way). The production on here might be slightly weird, but a lot of times, it is needed to fit the themes that he is going for. One of the great highlights on this album is “In Secret Anticipation.” On this 7 minute song, he literally describes an entire population leaving earth and going to some mystical space planet, meeting the inhabitants, and seeing everything that the planet has to offer. It is really amazing when you listen to these lyrics. This are next level raps. Not too many can do it like Killah Priest can. He is a treasured jewel in rap music.

KILLAH PRIEST & JORDAN RIVER BANKS – JOURNEY TO THE PLANET OF THE GODS

Killah Priest teams up with producer Jordan River Banks to release a brand new album. This one is pretty much what you would expect from Killah Priest. He does a pretty good job on the mic weaving together his cosmic, otherworldly, religious, and street rhymes together in an intricate pattern for fans to enjoy. I don’t think these are his best bars out of his entire catalog, but true fans will be happy hearing new Killah Priest Bars. Sometimes, I feel he can be unorganized with no clear themes and this album might show that detriment slightly. The beats on here are pretty standard. Again, these are the types of beats you would expect to hear Killah Priest over. Some are other-worldly in the sound and match up with the bars that Killah Priest is spitting. All in all, this was an average record for KP. It’s always great getting an album from him and we definitely look forward to more material.

SUNZ OF MAN – THE REBIRTH

The Wu-Tang affiliate group Sunz Of Man is back with their first album in about 13 years. A lot of times when artists take a break for that long, they sound a little rusty when they come back. This is the complete opposite of that statement. They sound as fresh, if not better than they did when they first hit the scene. The rhymes are dope throughout. You can really hear the hunger and the talent in all of these artists as they throw darts all over this album. The beats are great as well. You almost get that classic Wu vibe as if you were listening to these songs in a Shaolin monastery. These fellas definitely did a great job on this album and should be commended for the turn-out of it.

MOON CRICKETS – DEATH IN THE ARENA

This was a mixed review on this album for me. This was the first time I had ever heard of this hip-hop collective. Killah Priest I am definitely familiar with and he is definitely crazy lyrically. This Lord Fury though is straight trash. His lyrics were garbage and his vocals are straight up annoying. Throughout the whole album, it is basically like he is just yelling at the listener. Killah Priest definitely keeps up his side of the coin by spitting some pretty dope verses where he is featured. He’s always been dope though so it is understandable. The beats are pretty decent on here. There are a lot of tracks that are really banging and something to definitely knock your car speakers out with. I was impressed with the production. DJ Merciless does a great job on that part of it. So to sum it up, if Lord Fury was removed from this project, it would have been pretty dope. We are left with a divided album though. Check this one out if you want something different than the norm.

KILLAH PRIEST & 4TH DISCIPLE – DON’T SIT ON THE SPEAKERS VOL. 1

Killah Priest takes a unique approach with this release. 4th Disciple and him team up and KP delivers some fantastic bars over all old school beats. His lyrics are crazy. The standout track to me is probably “Sativa” in which he just releases bar after bar of MC-crushing wizardry. The fact that all of the beats on here are old school sampled songs is great too. It definitely gives you that golden era, classic rap feel. You don’t have the somber and dark trap beats of today, but more of a lively, fun-filled sound. It’s good to hear Killah Priest on something different. This mixtape definitely works so if you are a fan of old school hip hop, you will definitely like this record.

KILLAH PRIEST – THE UNTOLD STORY OF WALTER REED PT. 2

This project was exactly what I expected from Killah Priest. It’s a huge compilation of a lot of dope tracks. He’s always been known for being lyrical. His rhymes reflect a mixture of biblical references and street imagery perfectly blended together. He powerfully flows over some tremendous knocking beats on this project. I was actually wondering where Killah Priest had been recently and to my surprise, he drops this project. While it might not be popular with the masses, if you are a true Killah Priest fan, you will definitely enjoy this project. The only criticism I could really give it would be maybe the length of the project. Other than having a deluge of tracks, this is a banger to definitely check out.

KILLAH PRIEST & THA ADVOCATE – GAME OF FLOWS

This was a very strange and very huge collection of a lot of weird rap songs. The highlight of it is obviously the Killah Priest tracks that are sprinkled throughout this massive 50-track project. KP delivers the same religious and street influenced rhymes that he has always been so great at delivering. There are tons of tracks on here by not-so-well-known artists that are very strange. I understand that this is a way to introduce the masses to a lot of artists that they might not normally listen to, but I gotta say that I was not a fan of most of it. The vast majority of it is very bizarre and nothing that I would pick back up and listen to again. There are also 2 random tracks that are included in this project that make no sense at all but I was glad they were there. G-Unit’s “Set The Pick” and Dave East’s “Keisha” are included in this project for some reason. So take those 2 songs and add KP’s songs on there and that is really all you need to peep out with this release. Maybe these other artists will crawl back into the slimy, dark cave that they came out of and make more music. Who knows?

KILLAH PRIEST & VENDETTA KINGS – THE INFINITE UNIVERSE

This album wasn’t too impressive. I have long been a Killah Priest fan but this album simply didn’t do it for me. Paired with the group the Vendetta Kingz, this album doesn’t bring much to the table. I always appreciate the religious and spacey universal rhymes of Killah Priest and he does shine on this album, but the biggest downfall is probably the lyricism of the Vendetta Kingz. It almost sounds as if they are trying to mimic Killah Priest’s style but falling short. As far as production, there are some good tracks on this album. Combining lyricism, production, and overall cohesiveness, I feel that this album definitely falls short. If  you are a die hard Killah Priest fan, then give it a whirl. If not, skip to the next album in your playlist.
