Jay Electronica releases yet another project this year. This one was an older album that he finally put out in its entirety. On the mic, Jay Electronica is purely magical. His skill level is so far above most MCs out there, it really is uncanny. While most rappers talk about the same old subjects like partying and flossing, he gets deeper in his thoughts and rhymes by leaps and bounds. As far as the production, this one is a bit of a mixed bag. There are definitely some bangers on here and then there is some stuff that is a little weird. Some of the production sounds almost experimental at times, but overall it comes off pretty decent. The highlight on here is “Road To Perdition” featuring the almighty Jay-Z. This one is a certified banger and the rhymes are out of this world. This is another dope look into the world of Jay Electronica. We hadn’t seen much of it over the last decade and now that we are getting a peek into his world, it’s a glorious thing.
Jay Electronica FINALLY releases the album that we have literally been waiting more than a decade to get. It was almost unbelievable that it actually came out. And if an album just from Jay Electronica didn’t excite fans enough, he has Jay-Z featured on almost every one of the 10 tracks on there. You pretty much can’t ask for anything greater than this situation. The rhymes are pretty phenomenal on here. You get a mix of the mystical, esoteric knowledge blended with Muslim rhetoric blended with street life. Both Jay Electronica and Jay-Z are definitely speaking on another level on this one and it will take a few listens to get it down. The beats on here are decent, but a little different than what I had expected. I think fans wanted to see more of a Just Blaze feel on here. While the beats are good, they can be a bit dreamy at time. The highlight of the album is definitely “Ghost Of Soulja Slim.” The beat is hard and both MCs rip the mic. Honorable mention for the solemn “A.P.I.D.T.A.” as this is like a salute to fallen soldiers. All in all, they did a great job on the album. I hope that we don’t have to wait another 15 years for more music from Jay Electronica. This is one he can definitely be proud of though.
Fuck you Jay Electronica. On this site, we review projects by artists who actually release music. This dude came on the scene back in 2007 and to be honest, he has like 3 songs out. He doesn’t even have an album. Read that again. HE DOESN’T HAVE A DEBUT ALBUM OUT. This dude was regarded as the second coming. Everyone was hyped about him. It’s one thing to let people wait and build a buzz for a bit, but this is insane. Granted, can this dude spit?? Absolutely. Better than most rappers. Could he be the next best thing?? Absolutely. But we will never know because it has been 47 years and he dropped 4 songs and maybe 2 features. Get outta here with that mess. I won’t even review this album because he doesn’t deserve to be reviewed. (Note, there are dope rhymes and dope beats on here). But like hell if you are getting a review rating out of me.
OVERALL RATING: RELEASE A DAMN DEBUT ALBUM ALREADY!!
