JAE MILLZ – POTENT VIBES ONLY 3

Jae Millz drops off a quick project here with Potent Vibes Only 3. This one is only 6 tracks so it plays through pretty quickly. Millzy keeps it pretty dope and is definitely on his lyrical game pretty good. He is one of those hidden gems that not a ton of people know about. His bars and his flow are dope and that is definitely showcased on this latest effort. The beats on here are pretty standard for a Jae Millz release. You are getting what you expect there. All in all, this was a good project, but I would have liked to see more of a studio album from Jae Millz.

JAE MILLZ – DON’T CALL NOW

Jae Millz dropped a new album and this one sorta fell back a few steps from previous joints. Usually Jae Millz comes with good bars and picks some good beats. This one fell back on both accounts. It’s not terrible, but he definitely took a few steps back. His bars aren’t as impressive as previous songs that he has done. The beats sound a lot more simplistic as you listen through this one also. The worst song on here is the obvious reworking of the song “Under The Sea” from The Little Mermaid titled “Under The Sheets.” C’mon dog, NOBODY is rapping over Little Mermaid. Nobody. While this isn’t a terrible album, it’s not quite where we want to see Jae Millz at. Hopefully we will see some better work with the next one.

JAE MILLZ – POTENT VIBES ONLY 2

This was an incredibly short offering at only 4 tracks but yet and somehow, Jae Millz finds a way to keep it potent. He is fantastic at telling stories and making the listener really feel and see what he is talking about in his rhymes. The bars on here are definitely quality just as the beats are too. He gives us 4 new dope tracks. The production may not be classic, but they are strong. Really the only downfall would be the length of the project. We need some 10 track offerings in the future. This is a decent listen though.

JAE MILLZ – POTENT VIBES ONLY

At only 5 tracks, Jae Millz didn’t have much room to mess around, so he didn’t. He definitely did his thing on this new project. His bars are pretty great throughout. On “Preaching To The Choir” he trades bars with Vado over a real Harlem sounding soul sample. Other songs like “Call On Me” and “I Tell You What” sound like they would be part of the soundtrack to Miami Vice with their old school vibe. Jae Millz has a way of making tracks like that sound really dope. One of the only downfalls to this project is the length. If it was longer, we could have vibed out more. But it is still dope for what it is. Great job Jae Millz.

JAE MILLZ & ANTHINY KING – MUCH LOVE

Jae Millz teams up with singer Anthiny King to give us a dope new project just in time for Valentine’s Day. This one is definitely a banger and will definitely have you in your feelings thinking of your significant other. Jae Millz keeps getting better and really embodies some great lyrics pertaining to that special lady. He really gives you the sense that he can’t get this girl off his mind. Anthiny King sounds great singing as well. He really complements the style that is needed for this record. This is really a fantastic record and really gets you in that vibe. I really commend Jae Millz for knowing how to capture that feeling sonically. The highlight on here is “I Know.” The beat is amazing, the hook is great, and the bars are just expertly crafted for this song. Jae Millz did another great job here.

JAE MILLZ – WOOD PANEL WALLS

Jae Millz delivers a brand new project that is really dope. Right off the bat, Jae Millz takes us literally back in time with the cut “Granny’s Hallway” with Vado. The picture he paints on this song is so realistic and so vivid, he definitely should be commended on that track. And he definitely keeps that same vibe with most of his rhymes throughout the project. He is able to make you see and feel what he is saying. That is a great gift. The beats on this project are pretty dope as well. They have this aura about them where there is more to the beat than just a drum and bass line. It’s almost like there is a soul to each track and that really makes them stand out more. Jae Millz did a fantastic job with this new project and he definitely deserves all the accolades on this one.

JAE MILLZ – POTENT MUSIC 5

Jae Millz comes through with another dope new release. He sounds real good on this one on the mic. The lyrics are dope and the Harlem native continues to do his thing. The beats on here are pretty decent as well. I’d say that the first half of the 8 songs plays through a little bit better than the last 4, but all in all, this was a pretty strong release. Even though the songs are quick, they have an energy around them. It’s almost like Jae Millz breathes some life into the tracks. We just hope this trend continues moving forward. This is another good brick on the wall of the Potent Music series.

JAE MILLZ – FEELS LIKE I WAS HERE BEFORE

Jae Millz seems to just be getting better and better. He drops off a very strong release with this latest offering. As far as the rhymes, he is able to spit some great bars for fans to take in. He’s definitely getting into his groove more as an MC and growing more with each and every release. He’s not quite perfect yet, but he is definitely moving in that direction. The production on this project is great as well. On this one, you get more ethereal, dreamy type Drake beats which is perfect for Jae Millz. There is one song that he could have left off of here and strangely enough, it is the title track. That one just didn’t seem to mesh well with the other songs. I don’t know if it was an experimental type of song or what, but it just didn’t come out too well. On the contrary, there are really strong songs like “Corner Store Rap” which has a banging beat and “Moonwalking” which is a sexy, dreamy type beat for the ladies to vibe to. Jae Millz has definitely come correct and deserves praise for this project.

JAE MILLZ – THE VIRGO MIXTAPE 7 (GROWN & NASTY)

Jae Millz re-ups his Virgo mixtape series with the 7th installment. It’s a decent mix of some new tracks and some freestyles over some classic soul tracks. Lyrically, I don’t think he is really pushing the envelope too much, but at the same time, I don’t think it is really called for with a project like this. He’s definitely hitting for par on the bars side of things. The beats are a very dope selection all around. The samples or classic tracks they picked are very reminiscent of what you would be hearing at a summer bbq which comes off really dope. He rocks a medley of classic tracks on “Club Virgo Playlist.” “If You Want To” will definitely ring a bell to sample-knowledgeable people. This is just a fun ride throughout the 9 track project.

JAE MILLZ – KEYWORDS EP

This was an extremely short, but very potent release here by Jae Millz. Even though there are only 5 tracks, each one has very clear and concise purpose. Each song deals with a feeling or situation in life and basically drops some major jewels throughout each song. It really is uncanny how well-written these songs are. To match the songs, there are some pretty dope beats to vibe out to as well. It sounds like the tracks were definitely paired up with the lyrics properly. All in all, this is a really good EP that you definitely need to check out. Don’t pass this one up!

JAE MILLZ – PAY ATTENTION, IT’S FREE

Jae Millz is back with a pretty average record here. This is exactly what you would expect from Jae Millz. The rhymes are average. The beats are average. He was shooting for par and hit it. There’s not really a whole lot that can be said for it. You’re not going to hear anything mind-blowing on here. There’s nothing really whack on here at all, but there’s nothing really rewind-worthy either. The best track on here is probably “Soul Ain’t Right” where Jae talks about where he stands with the other artists in Young Money. It’s a good track to hear so that fans can hear where everyone is at and what they are about. Jae Millz fans will probably like this one, but to the casual rap fan, you may want to just skip this one.

JAE MILLZ – POTENT MUSIC 4

Jae Millz delivers his latest installment of his Potent Music mixtape series. This one was pretty decent all around. I would call it a bit more laid back than usual which can be a good thing. Lyrically, he keeps the flow moving. I think he is hitting for par with his bars on this one. There is nothing really mind-bending, but at the same time, there is nothing really whack. The production is decent on here as well with a few tracks that stand out. “It Could Always Be Worse” has an absolutely slamming drum track and bassline to it. This one should really bump hard in your car. “Don’t Burn Your Bridges” has a fantastic sped-up sample reminiscent of some old Kanye West beats. All in all, this is an average to above average release for Jae Millz. I think he did a good job with this one.

JAE MILLZ – THE ART EXHIBIT COLLECTION 1

This was a super quick project at only 4 tracks from Jae Millz. Nothing really lengthy that you can say here about this one. Lyrically Millzy does pretty good. There is nothing really spectacular but nothing really bad either. He has a good flow and at least hits for par with his wordplay. The beats are average. You definitely don’t get those modern trap beats of today which is a good thing. I did like the concept of making it an art exhibit theme. You can kind of feel that throughout the 4 tracks. All in all, a decent effort. I’d like to see longer, more quality projects in the future. You don’t have to constantly put out music if your material is great. Take your time and perfect your craft.

JAE MILLZ – POTENT MUSIC 3

Jae Millz is back with another mixtape that he really stepped his game up on this time around. I have given him a lot of flack in the past on some of his projects but this one, he really put some hard work into. The rhymes are pretty damn good. You can tell he stepped it up a few levels on here. There are some clever metaphors and some lines that are definitely rewind-worthy on here. The beats are another high point on this one all around. They have some great samples and a lot of the tracks almost have that late 80s sound to it. It just really sets the whole project off nicely. Some highlights to this project would be “Making Money Everyday” and “This Mood.” Both have clever and classic 80s samples and Jae rides the beats perfectly. This is a huge step up for Jae Millz and I think he deserves a lot of credit for this one. Keep up the good work.

JAE MILLZ – LENOX AVE LEGEND

Jae Millz drops off a quick mixtape here on us that is pretty average. He is certainly not the best lyricist out there and it is evidenced yet again on this project. He can make do with the bars – a decent flow but certainly nothing note-worthy. It’s good enough to pass the time. As far as production on here, there are some strong beats. You definitely get a little more of a New York feel on here and it matches better with Jae Millz since he is a Harlem native. Ron Browz does some of the beats and while those are good, I do think that featuring him as an artist on the songs does sound a little repetitive and boring after awhile. All in all, this is a fairly standard release.

JAE MILLZ – BACK IN MY BAG EP

The Harlem native Jae Millz drops off a quick EP here which is surprisingly good. Millz is not known for being the most lyrically complex MC but on this release, I think he does a pretty good job. Although it is only 5 tracks, it serves as a pretty good effort. It seems that on the lyrical side, he puts in a little more effort than previous releases. The lyrics seem to be a little bit more poignant and stick with you a little bit longer. The beats are on the same level. Very good production is provided by Ron Browz and HNIC. If he had released a studio album of this quality, I think we would be looking at a good way to start out the year.

JAE MILLZ – THE VIRGO MIXTAPE 6

This is a quick project from Jae Millz. Doesn’t take too long to get through it. His rhymes are definitely not the best. I’d say he is shooting a little bit under average here. He was never the best lyricist ever. The rhymes work though on a very basic level. The beats are a lot of classic r&b samples that sound pretty good. Most songs have more of a romantic theme to them. So this is more geared towards the ladies. I’m not mad at the concept though and I’m glad there is a central theme here. I definitely don’t think the beats will disappoint. The rhymes could have been a lot better though. To be completely honest, I actually didn’t even know there were 5 previous mixtapes before this in the same fashion. It does have me curious to go back and check out some of the previous ones. Just hopefully not a waste of time or a let down.

JAE MILLZ – SAVAGE

This album should have been named “Trash” because that is exactly what it is. Do yourself a favor, take this album and just chuck it out the car window. There is literally no replay value in this project at all. The highlight is probably the feature verse by Cory Gunz. That’s it. The rhymes are the same old garbage that is spewed at us everyday in this “new flow” style that is done today by so many sell out rappers. The beats are forgettable. This project is an all around failure. The only reason I give it any kind of rating is because there are worse rappers out there other than Jae Millz.
