Planet Asia drops an exciting new album that has rap fans in a frenzy. PA is constantly dropping albums but this one has a bit more hype than normal. This one is entirely produced by Evidence from Dilated Peoples. There really isn’t much that can be said about both of them that you shouldn’t already know. Planet Asia’s mic work is elegant and refined as usual as he twists words and phrases. There are a few features from the likes of Rome Streetz, Milano Constantine, Domo Genesis, and Evidence himself. On the boards, Evidence definitely has his own style and is defining it more and more with each release. He really sounds like he is finding his own footing which is a good thing. The album plays through extremely well as both parties continue to keep their high standard of quality throughout. This is definitely a great album and true hip hop fans will revel in it.

Evidence drops a new album that is a perfect example of growth and progression. As a lyricist, he carefully sits and thinks out every bar and you can feel the concentration from beginning to end. Every move he makes is deliberate and well-planned out. He really shows the progression of an MC from a young cat that just wants to rhyme over a boom bap beat to a man who wants to say something meaningful. The beats on here are a bit different than what we are used to, but again, you can tell that this was deliberate. He wasn’t going for the same old sound. He wants to push the movement forward into new and uncharted territory. Some will go with him on this journey and some will be left behind. Some will even come along as brand new fans. The fact remains that Evidence is growing and evolving and that is exactly what we as humans should do.

This was a pretty average album by all means. Domo Genesis offers nothing really mind-blowing when it comes to lyrical ability. He has a few instances or few lines that might be rewind-worthy. A few of his bars made me think that he has some skill at this. His voice is ever so slightly annoying at times as well. The beats are produced by Evidence and these beats are ok. I wouldn’t say this is Evidence’s finest work, but at the same time, there’s nothing really wrong with them either. Overall, this is a super average release. Middle of the road releases are usually forgotten about quickly and I imagine that is what will happen with this EP.

Evidence comes back after a long hiatus with a truly great album. The Dilated Peoples MC has always been great and just further proves why he is on this project. This one has an almost perfect mix of all elements you would look for to make a perfect album. He writes so well and allows you to see the pain in his life. He allows  you to see the greatness in his life. He shows you all the emotions in a very dope way that most writers can’t seem to find and connect with their audiences. The beats are fantastic on this project. As I listened to beat after beat, I was waiting for one to be off or just not as good as the others, and honestly, I didn’t really find one. He sculpts some nearly perfect songs on this record and you would be short-changing yourself on life lessons if you don’t go out and cop this album.

Evidence - Weather Or Not

The Likwit crew member Defari is back with a West Coast banger for your eardrums. This was a dude I had always been aware of back through Xzibit and the Alkaholiks but never really peeped his solo projects. This album was very good overall. Lyrically, I don’t think Defari is top of the pack or anything, but he is able to hold his own. He’s not very complex, but he does have a decent flow and keeps the songs rolling. Production-wise is where this album really stands out. Evidence from Dialated Peoples produced this whole thing and it really shows how great of a producer he is. The beats just sound like that classic, underground boom-bap California style that sounds so amazing. Evidence really outdid himself on this project. The standout tracks are probably “Acknowledgement” featuring Evidence and “Dedicated” featuring Phil Tha Agony. The first and last tracks on here set the tone for the album. If you are a fan of the West Coast, then you definitely want to give this project a listen.
