DEFARI & DIRTY DIGGS – TRUTH SERUM

Defari links up with Dirty Diggs again to give us a brand new project. On this go round, I don’t think that it stands out as much as previous projects have. This was not one of their stronger albums. That is not to say it is whack though. Defari definitely raps with conviction, but I think a lot of his bars aren’t really up to par with previous projects. They just seemed to hit less hard than before. They just sorta float through the air and keep going. They don’t really stick. As far as the production, it wasn’t the best I have heard Dirty Diggs do, but then again, it wasn’t really bad either. I’d definitely give more credit to the production side of things with this project. There definitely needed to be some more work done here. I’d almost like to hear more of a West Coast sound for Defari. I mean, he started out with the Likwit crew and he really shined there, so why not continue with more of the root sound?

PLANET ASIA & DIRTY DIGGS – HIGH END CLOTHS

Planet Asia teams up with producer Dirty Diggs to deliver a great new album. This one really plays through very well. Planet Asia on the mic is always a problem for MCs out there today. He is precise and regal just like an ancient Egyptian artifact taken straight out of the pyramids. Combine this with Dirty Diggs on the boards and you have a real problem on your hands. Dirty Diggs definitely seemed to complement Planet Asia well as he knew how to create beats that Planet Asia would sound great over. This was a real good listen and both artists did a great job. They always sound dope when they link up.

PHIL THE AGONY & DIRTY DIGGS – STEADY STRAINS SAMPLER

The West Coast MC Phil The Agony teams up with producer Dirty Diggs to give us a very quick joint. While it only has 5 songs and an instrumental of each to accompany it, there’s some dopeness that can be found here. My main critique is how short it is. Let’s just keep these joints awhile longer and try to shoot for studio albums please. The quick throwaway projects every other week to stay relevant is old. I’d rather have quality over quantity. Phil does a decent job on the mic. He spits his West Coast bars in his classic style. He even gets a little assistance from Defari on “Southern California Fire (Choose You).” This is probably the highlight of this quick project. It has a real dope sample and both rappers do their thing on it to give it a West Coast laid back vibe. Overall, it’s very quick but not too bad at all. Let’s just shoot for longer projects please.

PLANET ASIA & DIRTY DIGGS – ARTIC PLUS DEGREES (THE SUN DON’T CHILL ALLAH)

Planet Asia teams up with producer Dirty Diggs to give us a fantastic new project. This one is stone cold when it comes to the bars provided by Planet Asia and the beats provided by Dirty Diggs. Planet Asia is just a force in the industry and creates such dope lyrics every time he touches the mic. Diggs gives us another dope audio landscape for Planet Asia to do his thing. This one has an Arctic cold tundra feel to it from the beats to the audio samples telling us about the life of Eskimos. It really creates a unique feeling for this project that makes it stand apart from other projects. All in all, they did a great job with this and hip hop heads will love this one.

DIRTY DIGGS – PETTY TENDERGRASS

Dirty Diggs gives us a pretty sizable new project. He has recruited tons of underground artists to show and prove why these MCs can spit. The beats are pretty dope overall. There are few tracks that stand out more than others. The highlights are as follows. Ty Farris absolutely rips the mic on his track “Harsh Realities.” Planet Asia kills it lyrically throughout this whol eproject especially on the track “Loosies.” Supreme Cerebral really rips his bars on the track “Novelty.” The song “Head Hunt” by Killa Kali has a really familiar sample that hip hop heads will definitely recognize. “Seen Tings” by LMNO has a really dope beat that is sure to snap your neck. All in all, this was a pretty decent job by all involved. A few tracks could have been a little bit better, but overall, I definitely recommend this project.

BIG TWINS & DIRTY DIGGS – QUEENSBRIDGE EP

The Infamous Mobb MC Big Twins teams up with producer Dirty Diggs who has seemed to have been on a tear recently. This quick 6 track EP is chock full of dope tracks despite its size. It’s a very quick listen, but in the short time, Big Twins is able to press the mic hard with his realistic street raps. There are some great complementary features from Godfather Pt. III, Hus Kingpin, Willie The Kid, and Planet Asia who is on half of the tracks of this project. Planet Asia pretty much sounds smooth on any project he is on so you know that will be a quality contribution. Dirty Diggs gives us some really dope beats for these MCs to do their thing on. He was definitely able to capture that unique Queens sound on here. Check this one out when you get a minute because you won’t be disappointed.

DIRTY DIGGS – THE LAST ONES TO THREE PEAT

The producer Dirty Diggs delivers a very quick EP at only 6 songs, but there is some major heat that is tucked away on there. The production on here is very good. He is great at using interesting vocal samples or horns to really set the beat off. There are great features from gifted MCs such as Westside Gunn, Conway, Benny, El Camino, and more. It almost comes off as a mini-Griselda project just with different sounding production. Although it plays through very fast, it is still a good listen. One of the only reasons we would take away points would be because of the length. Let’s move away from EPs and get back to full length projects again.

DEFARI & DIRTY DIGGS – EVERY STEP

The West Coast MC Defari comes back at us with an interesting project as he teams up with producer extraordinaire Dirty Diggs. Defari has a very calm and laid back flow. He is very straight forward and it is possible that he might not resonate with all audiences because of that. He is just one of those MCs where at times I like his flow and at other times I am not feeling it. Guess it just depends on the mood. The production side of this project is very dope. Dirty Diggs is usually pretty consistent with delivering high level production on his beats. While all around, this is not a bad project at all, I do think that the audience for this one will be a little more limited than others. Definitely worth checking out if you want to hear something different.

AGALLAH & DIRTY DIGGS – THE WHITE LOTUS

Agallah has been around a long time and still continues to put out pretty quality material. While this project was by no means classic, it was a decent listen. Agallah is not the most technical rapper ever, but he does get a lot of points for his voice and his intensity. I don’t think he is really saying anything rewind-worthy, but you will definitely be feeling his delivery. The beats on this album are pretty decent. He has a whole theme of some samurai, ancient Japanese monastery type sound and it comes off pretty well. One crazy thing to point out on this record is that there are 2 skits, one being 2 seconds and one being 3 seconds long, that I found to be almost pointless. A 2 second skit? What is the point? Is someone going to have that on repeat? It was just the shortest skits I have ever heard in my life. That little fact aside, this was a decent project. It’s definitely different than a lot of the garbage that floods the airwaves today.
