BLU & EXILE – MILES

Blu and Exile release a slamming new project. This one is chock full of dopeness. On the mic, Blu is magical spitting deep and introspective rhymes. He does deep dives into a great deal of topics on this project. What makes it even better is that his flow is flawless as you move from song to song. The production on here is just amazing. These are highly produced tracks that have a great musical presence, but also bump in your speakers. You pretty much get the best of both worlds. Another notable thing about this release is how long the album is and how long the songs are. The songs definitely average out to be about 5 minutes long. You get a lot more out of songs when they are longer and you enjoy it more when they are this dope. This is definitely an album you will be playing back over and over again and discovering new things with each listen. The highlights on here include (but are not limited to): “The Feeling,” “Miles Away,” and “Dear Lord.” The vast majority of this album is expertly crafted and Blue and Exile should be very proud of this creation.

BLU & EXILE – TRUE & LIVIN EP

This dynamic duo of MC and producer link back up for a quick and dope EP for fans. If you have liked previous works of theirs, this will come as no surprise that this is a quality piece of work. Despite being shorter in length, it still has bangers on it. In actuality, there are only 3 songs on here and all 3 of them are dope, head-nodders. You get instrumental versions of each song as well. Even with those, you can hear the preciseness and care that went into each beat. It’s no wonder that Blu was able to spit so well over these fine songs. This one is a very quick, but very noticeably good project. You should definitely check this one out.

BLU & OH NO – A LONG RED HOT LOS ANGELES SUMMER NIGHT

LA rapper Blu returns with the beatsmith Oh No for a full length album that is kind of interesting. Blu is relatively decent on the mic. I think his flow outshines his wordplay which can be good at times. While you’re not necessarily getting some mind-bending rhymes on here, you do receive some fantastic story-telling. This whole album flows like one big, long story which is something rare nowadays. Masta Ace is usually one to do this concept so it is good to hear others giving it a try. The beats are pretty decent on here. You’re not really going to get anything classic, but I think they are definitely crafted in a way to provide a proper background to this project. It almost sounds like these songs belong in the order they are. All in all, not a bad job on this project.

BLU & NOTTZ – GODS IN THE SPIRIT, TITANS IN THE FLESH

This was a super dope release from Blu and producer Nottz. Although they combined 2 previously released EPs into one full length album, it still comes off as a cohesive project. If you are a hip-hop head, you have definitely heard these names before and equate them with dopeness. Together, they cooked up something pretty special and they did it twice. Lyrically Blu is 100% on point. The West Coast MC is able to flow very poignantly and profoundly over top of Nottz’s East coast beats. There are also plenty of good features on here to backup Blu on the mic. Nottz does a great job production wise. You get some classic sounding East Coast boom-bap for your ear drums. If your neck isn’t hurting from bopping your head after this one, you might as well be Helen Keller. I 100% recommend this release to anyone that wants to hear some dope rap music.

BLU & EXILE – IN THE BEGINNING (BEFORE THE HEAVENS)

This was a pretty dope release from Blu & Exile, the super duo that gave us “Below The Heavens.” The duo is back with their third studio album here and this one is pretty good overall. I wouldn’t call it a classic at all, but there are a lot of dope records on here. Lyrically, I think Blu is pretty good. He may not be the most lyrically complex MC out there, but his flow is what is most important. He is able to ride the beat without falling off from beginning to end. To be honest, it sounds pretty good when he does it too. The beats are very good on this project as well. I would say they are above average to a lot of the stuff that is out there nowadays. It’s blessed with a lot of just funky, hip-hop drums and it sounds good to the ear. It almost even has a tinge of a West Coast sound to it as well. If you are a fan of hip-hop, you definitely want to give this one a try. You will not be disappointed.
