Legendary MCs Mos Def and Talib Kweli join forces once again to give us a super long-awaited Blackstar album. This one fell pretty flat with what people wanted it to be. We wanted to hear that legendary sound they gave us on their first album. We wanted to hear the recapture that magic that they had together. On this new album, it just sounds so different. They have a weird echo on their voices throughout the entire project. It’s super light, but just sounds really weird. I wonder if it was not mixed that great in the studio. Talib Kweli actually sounds pretty fresh on the mic. His flow is great and he has seemed to have kept pace. Mos Def sounds a bit strange at time trading in some rhymes for chants instead. It just doesn’t sound like it used to. The production on here is pretty average. There aren’t any kinds of Brooklyn anthems or celebratory music for welcoming this group back. This one fell flat on fans ears and it wasn’t what we all wanted.
