38 Spesh and Harry Fraud give us a brand new project that is pretty strong. 38 Spesh has such a way with words and his voice is so unique as well. He doesn’t have a problem standing out from the masses. His bars are strong all throughout this project. He has features from greats such as Conway, Jim Jones, Ransom, Benny, Currensy and more. The production on this album handled by Harry Fraud is very strong as well. He always comes through when it is time to produce an album for an artist and he does a great job at complementing their style musically. The best track on here is “Band Of Brothers” featuring Ransom and Benny. The beat is very heavy and soulful and all 3 MCs rip through their verses to show you how great they are and what a band of brothers they really are. All in all, this is a strong album that deserves a listen from people who respect hip hop.

38 Spesh drops a quick new 8 track project. With MC’ing and producing the whole project, he had a lot on his plate. If you want guaranteed quality product, 38 Spesh is the man to trust and the man that will always deliver. On the mic, his rhymes are street and dope at the same time. He has fantastic bars that shows you what the street life is like vividly. He has great features from Freeway, Ransom, Che Noir, Eto, and more. On the boards, he is fantastic, often weaving strong drums and clever samples together to almost breathe through the beats and provide the soundtrack to what he is spitting. There is a soul in his music that purposefully inserted and can be felt through each song. Hip hop heads will definitely be digging this project and you will definitely be rewinding this one back quite a few times.

This one is a bit of a mixed bag. Benny & 38 Spesh join crews to give us a compilation of some of their work. Some of these songs are bangers and others are not their best work. The album starts off a bit slow but quickly ramps up with the main highlight of the project “Price Of Fame.” Klass Murda, Ransom, and Che Noir absolutely body this sinister, other-worldly beat. This is quite possibly one of the best verses I have ever heard from Che Noir and she should be commended for her talent. This is definitely the pinnacle of blacking out. Ransom is not too far behind her either. It’s unbelievable how focused these MCs are. “Spineless” is another dope joint by Ransom where he does what he does best over a beat that is one of the better ones on here. All in all, this project wasn’t too bad. It just seemed like there were a few throw away tracks on here and they should be apparent upon listening.

El Camino employs 38 Spesh on the boards to give us a super quick but super dope project. El Camino seems to really shine on the mic on this one. I don’t know if the beats brought it out of him or what, but he definitely has some focused rhymes on here. 38 Spesh definitely helps out with bringing out a fresh new batch of beats too. They definitely go hard on here and seem perfectly-matched for El Camino. These two do great work together and it is good to see them working as usual. The highlight on this project is probably “Camino Season.” El Camino definitely blacks out on this one. We can’t wait to see what they do next together.

38 Spesh drops another heater and this one is chock full of bangers. This one definitely plays through like it would be the soundtrack to riding on the Interstate transporting illegal substances in the trunk. 38 Spesh does a fantastic job at capturing that feeling both musically and lyrically. He really has a knack for putting the feeling and substance into the music. He also backs up that feeling with his well thought-out and well-crafted bars. He employs some great features from Che Noir, Ransom, El Camino, and more. A great highlight on here is the closer “Made It Home.” He definitely puts the icing on the cake by finishing off the project with this song. This album will definitely take you on a trip and it deserves more than a few spins.

38 SPESH – 1995

38 Spesh comes through with a new project called 1995. This one is different than his previous release titled 1994. On the previous release, he had tons of features to fully flesh out the classic tracks. On this new project, it is pretty much just 38 Spesh on the mic and his is spitting straight fire over all of the best classic beats. The only feature is on the Outro by Che Noir and she rips her verse as well. The beats he selects are some of the most iconic and best beats ever made. If you don’t know any of the tracks on this album, then I don’t even know what to tell you. 38 Spesh killed this quick record and you should definitely check it out.

With 38 Spesh on the boards, he can pretty much make any album sound dope as hell and that is precisely what he did with this project. Street Justice was a rapper I wasn’t too familiar with previously, but he definitely held it down on the mic. His bars may not be top tier, but he definitely paints a realistic and dope view for fans. His flow is pretty good as well and sounds great over 38 Spesh beats. The production on here is top notch. It is uncanny how many dope beats 38 Spesh can come up with. This guy must work round the clock. If you want a dope, East Coast-sounding project to listen to, then this is your album.

Flee Lord comes right back at us with a brand new project of heat. He teams up with 38 Spesh and effortlessly gives us another really dope album. Flee Lord sounds great on the mic. With his fantastic voice, he delivers more bars of pain for fans to consumer. Just like Flee Lord, 38 Spesh is another artist that has an impeccable work ethic. On the boards, he is fantastic yet again. The beats on here are straight fire. The highlight of this project is “Two Pics On My Gram.” With its great vocal sample and drums, this is sure to be a favorite. This is a great combination and I hope these 2 artists link up many times in the future.

38 Spesh drops off a quick new project that is jam packed of freshness. He is really a genius at this whole art. The beats on here are all produced by him and they are all slamming. He really has a knack for creating pure and dope hip hop. And when it comes to the rhymes, he is fantastic on that side of the coin as well. The way he crafts his lines together is really dope. He even has great features from Ransom and Eto on here. This is a short, but very powerful release from 38 Spesh and you do not want to miss this one.

38 Spesh assembles the troops once again for a second installment of the Army Of Trust series. He gets all the dope spitters together to wreak havoc on the mic. You get great verses from Flee Lord, Grafh, Planet Asia, Fred The Godson, Che Noir, and many more. The beats on here are really dope. 38 Spesh has definitely solidified himself as a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the production. The highlight of this project is the very short, but very dope song “Street Therapy” by Reef Hustle. Reef just absolutely tears the mic over top of a soulful sampled song from 38 Spesh. This is definitely rap at it’s finest here. 38 Spesh and the rest of the crew should definitely be thanked for their efforts with this project.

Although this record might be in the top tier level, it is strong on its own. El Camino definitely sets the stage with his bars and does a decent job on that side. 38 Spesh definitely produces some strong tracks to showcase his talent as well. He is really proving himself on both the lyrical side and the production side of things. Although this is a short project, there is some definite strength being displayed here.

1000 WORDS & 38 SPESH – 1000 WORDS

1000 Words teams up with 38 Spesh on the production to give us this new album that is chock full of features. The self-titled album has some pretty decent bars provided by a lot of MCs overtop of some strong production from 38 Spesh. Although 1000 Words might not be the best MC ever, he definitely assembles a squad here to help him out. You get some decent features from a ton of underground artists like Flee Lord, Daniel Son, Che Noir, Crimeapple, Nems, Eto, and more. The beats on here were decent overall. I think it was at least a good offering from 38 Spesh as he has definitely proven himself on the boards. Not a bad start for 1000 Words and we will see where he goes from here.

Planet Asia teams up with 38 Spesh behind the boards to give us a brand new album. Separately, both artists are amazing at what they do. Planet Asia has always been a boss with his rhymes and 38 Spesh definitely does his thing both on the mic and on the production side of things. Both definitely do their thing on this album. My only issue is that while they are both awesome, this particular mix of artists might not have worked together as well as it looked like on paper. I do think there is a slight issue where the styles just don’t mesh perfectly. Planet Asia definitely slays the bars, but I think 38 Spesh makes a particular sound that might be better suited for more of the East Coast artists, especially from the Buffalo & Rochester areas. Planet Asia definitely sounds better over the Fresno/West Coast/Egyptian medallion -type beats that we have grown accustomed to him rhyming over. And again, just to be clear, there was nothing whack on this project at all. I just don’t know if it was the greatest mash-up putting these 2 artists together.

Planet Asia & 38 Spesh - Trust The Chain

38 Spesh teams up with a bunch of great MCs to form the Trust Army and give us a pretty decent project. This one overall is pretty dope. It is far better than a lot of the other garbage out there today. If you are judging this project against only other 38 Spesh projects, I’d say it’s about average. His bars together with others such as Che Noir, Planet Asia, Dark Lo, Rome Streetz, and more are really pretty decent. They are definitely slaying it as a whole compared to the rest of the game, but up against their own work, there aren’t too many memorable moments on here. The beats are definitely pretty slamming as you have 38 Spesh behind the boards doing his thing. The highlight on here is “Steel Trumpets” by Dark Lo. He spits that real life, street Philly raps that are always some of the realest out there. Hip Hop heads will definitely appreciate this quality project as a whole. As far as replay value though, this might just be a once or twice played project. Still dope though no matter what.

38 Spesh & Trust Army - Army Of Trust

38 SPESH – 1994

38 Spesh compiles some of the best new age spitters to attack some of the most classic beats ever on this new project. On paper, this looks like it would be classic. While it might not be quite classic, this is one of the strongest releases we have seen from newcomers in awhile. It showcases a lot of today’s talent. You get fantastic features from RJ Payne, Che Noir, Conway, Benny, 38 Spesh, Ty Farris, Eto, and a lot more. The production on here is obviously great as well. They gently flip some of the best classic beats for the MCs to tear into. Some of the beats include “New York State Of Mind,” “Time’s Up,” “Mass Appeal,” and “Never Seen A Man Cry.” For all the people that say “Rap just doesn’t sound like it used to,” this is the project for you.

38 Spesh - 1994

Flee Lord has been on fire this year and teams up with 38 Spesh on the boards this time for a quick EP. This joint is pretty slamming from beginning to end. Flee Lord definitely sounds hungry on the mic and slays a lot of the rhymes on here. He gets backup from features from 38 Spesh, Che Noir, Termanology, and more. RJ Payne absolutely crushes the mic with his feature. 38 Spesh does a great job on the beats by providing some really hard hitting drums. A lot of these really snap and might break your neck. Some of the songs are super short at about a minute or 2, but other than that, it is pretty solid. Hip-hop fans will definitely want to check this one out.

Flee Lord & 38 Spesh - Loyalty & Trust EP

38 Spesh teams up with the highly talented producer Big Ghost Ltd for this quick new banger. They really outdid themselves here with this one. 38 Spesh does a fantastic job on the mic spitting hardcore street rhymes in a most clever way. He is usually real good, but just seems to shine brighter on this one here. Could it possibly be the high level of production that brought it out of him? I think so. Big Ghost does a phenomenal job on the production side of things. You get slamming beats and fantastic drums all throughout this project. The highlight on here is the posse cut “Barbarians.” This is an eerie and slamming beat which features stand-out features from fellow NY rappers Eto, Street Justice, Klass Murda, and Che Noir. All of the MCs definitely tear through the beat. I definitely wish this project was longer, but I am very pleased with the outcome of this one. This is a must have for hip-hop heads out there.

38 Spesh & Big Ghost Ltd - A Bullet For Every Heathen

38 Spesh gives us a bit of a group project with this album. The very feature heavy album sees the likes of Benny, Klass Murda, Che Noir, and more. Lyrically I think that all MCs did a good job. The intro to the album is definitely proof of that. This is possibly the best track on here. Che Noir definitely spits bars you can feel throughout. Benny does what he does best and gives us those hard Griselda bars. 38 Spesh continues to get better and better as he releases more projects as well. Where I felt that this album fell a little bit short is the production. The songs just didn’t connect with me like they probably could have. Some of the hooks are a little weak. I just wanted to see more out of the production side of things. “Summer Pain” flipped a pretty decent sample. That was one of the better tracks. Overall, not a bad album, it’s just that we wanted to see more musically. Spend a little more time on picking beats, and 38 Spesh might get a classic one day real soon.

38 Spesh - The Trust Tape 3

38 Spesh is definitely an MC that is on the rise. I was slightly let down by this album though. Lyrically, he has absolutely nothing to worry about. This guy’s bars just keep getting better and better with every project he does. I don’t think that is where the problem is at all. The beats on this album were slightly a bit of a let down. Don’t get me wrong, there is literally TONS of other stuff out there that is light years behind this release. I just think that some of the beats didn’t live up to expectations. A lot of the beats are really somber sounding. I thought some of the hooks weren’t up to par either like on “Everywhere I Go.” That just wasn’t a strong enough hook. Now there are strong points on here like “What More” which features a fantastic sample. Also “Family” which features Ransom is a pretty dope song. Ransom does what he does best by spitting another flawless verse. All in all, I thought this was a good album, just not great. It should have been better.

38 Spesh just keeps getting better. From his collaboration albums with NY greats to his features, he keeps improving on every release. This quick 6-track EP is no different. Although it is short, he brings the heat on the mic. You can hear his progression. His rhymes are getting better. His wordplay is getting slicker. This dude is destined to be a household name on the East Coast. The beats on here are pretty slamming as well. I was definitely impressed with the drums on all of the tracks. He really picked out some flames to rhyme over. If this EP is any indication of the album coming on Feb 1st, we are all in for a treat.

38 Spesh - 5 Shots EP

This is a fantastic recording by a legend in the game and a relatively new MC. 38 Spesh has definitely been making moves recently by linking up with some of the classic MCs from New York and trying to recreate that old classic sound. Who better to do that with than the legend himself, Kool G Rap? The main thing you will notice about this project is it’s consistency. Every track on here sounds like it belongs in this cohesive project. You definitely get that East Coast, NY, boom bap sound. With production from the hip hop royalty of Alchemist, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Showbiz, and Daringer, on paper, this album can’t lose. There are tons of hard beats on here and tons of guest features to flesh some of the songs out. You will get dope features from Noreaga, AZ, Cormega, Ransom, and more. Lyrically Kool G Rap tears the mic apart as he usually does. You can definitely expect top tier lyricism from easily one of the top 5 rappers ever. 38 Spesh tries to keep up and does a relatively decent job. I did like how he flipped it and gave his version on the song “Shame” over Kool G’s old instrumental. “Land Mine,” “The Meeting,” and “Binoculars” are all standout tracks. They did a great job with this one and it was definitely worth the wait.

Benny links up with 38 Spesh for this collaboration album that turned out pretty dope. I was definitely hyped to see new material from Benny. His bars on here were pretty damn good. He definitely gives you some clever wordplay about street life and crimes. He is definitely pushing the artform in a new direction of talent. 38 Spesh, while maybe not as good as Benny, still does a somewhat decent job. I think he was a decent complement to Benny on this project. Two dope features from Styles and Jadakiss are the only ones that appear on here. They definitely both shine on here. This project is definitely filled with street raps and it comes off real dope. The beats are pretty good as well. I think there were a few that were a little bit lackluster but overall, there are some dope tracks on here with a few bangers mixed in. The two highlights are probably “So Strategic” and “My River.” These are just fantastic beats that go hard. You may recognize the “So Strategic” sample from the old Diplomats track “I Really Mean It.” All in all, I think that these 2 cooked up a fine project with this one. Definitely something that the streets can feed off of.
