2ND GENERATION WU – THE LEGEND OF SHAOLIN

The sons of the Wu come back with another round of some dope flows for fans. On the mic, they seem to have really good flows, but the lyrical quality is not quite up to par with the elders. It’s no disrespect at all, because they sound good on the mic. It may be because they are just new and fresh. It takes some time to perfect the style. They have all the right tools to get there. And it will probably come over time. The flows are great though so far. The beats on here are pretty decent. They do lift a lot of things from their fathers beats that they have used over time. Some of it sounds pretty good, but it might be a tad too much sometimes. We like to see Chris Rivers stand on his own and not in his father’s shadow. We’d like to see the same with the 2nd Generation Wu. The highlights on this project are “No Place 2 Hide” and “Decimation Of Frauds.” How could you go wrong lifting these classic Wu-Tang beats and rocking over them?? All in all, not a bad album. Wu heads will definitely appreciate. We look forward to the growth.

2ND GENERATION WU & INTELL – COMPUTERS FOR THE HOOD

Intell from 2nd Generation Wu and the other members link up to give us a brand new project. This one is interesting because it definitely sounds reminiscent of the Hieroglyphics in terms of the pure hip hop flows and story-telling. The flow that they use is one that is just non-stop and it basically sounds like it is fun to listen to. The beats on here are pretty complementary to the bars as well. The provide a good backdrop for them to flow over. There really isn’t a standout track as all the tracks are pretty decent. This is a good album to check out for anyone interested in the 2nd Generation Wu.

2ND GENERATION WU – HEREDITARY

The children of some of the members of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan have released their first full length album. The first thing that should probably be said is that you can’t catch lightning in a bottle twice. The Wu-Tang created something historical back in the early 90’s and it is all but impossible to recreate that. Even their own offspring can’t produce that kind of energy that their parents did back in the early 90’s. That being said, these new youngsters are promising though. The rhymes aren’t anywhere near the original Wu-Tang, but I do like that they try to rap like the old school cadence as opposed to the new school method. The beats on here are pretty decent as well. I think they definitely tried to select some soulful production to really bring out the best in them. It doesn’t always work, but they definitely have potential. They also do some reworkings of classic Wu-Tang songs. “Guess Who” is a rework of “Cher Chez La Ghost” and “7.O.D.” is a rework of “C.R.E.A.M.” Both of these are probably the best tracks on the album. Who knows how far this group will go? I hope for great things, but time will tell.
