RZA drops a new project that doesn’t really have that Wu-Tang sound to it at all. This is a really weird project and fans of that classic Wu-Tang sound probably won’t be feeling this one. On the mic, RZA sounds true to self. These are definitely not his best bars ever but he does sound slightly reminiscent of the old classic RZA verses we all love. The beats are really out there and are probably not going to go over too well with classic Wu fans. There are only 8 tracks on this project so it doesn’t take too long to get through the whole thing, but I did feel better once I knew this one was over. No disrespect to the Abbot, but this is not the one.

This new album is trash. Just straight trash. People can try to fake like it’s not, but it is. It is not on the same level of talent that Drake has made us used to over the last 10 years plus. Every prior album has had at least some level of greatness, but this one is nowhere near them. The only feature is 21 Savage and honestly, we didn’t really want one from him anyway, but it’s one of the better tracks on the album. Drake has a great voice and sings well, but the production on this album ruins it. The whole New Jersey club sound is not something that Drake has to do to get us all to like him. He was trying to go a new route and create a shift in the culture. We don’t want it like that. We want to hear Drake in all his glory the way that we have always loved him. He has one track where he raps “Jimmy Cooks” featuring 21 Savage and to be honest, that one isn’t even one of his better tracks. I’ll give him half a point for his singing and half a point for the way that this album was delivered with the quickness on the sly. Other than that, this one is pretty bad. I hope Drake can redeem himself by the time the year is over.

Fashawn links up with a rapper named Ramses for this latest venture which didn’t end up too good. On the mic, Fashawn is awesome. Always has been, always will be. Why he linked up with this Ramses guy, I have no idea. Ramses isn’t too good on the mic. He reminds me of one of those backpack rappers that tries to enunciate every syllable and talk about “lyrical miracles” to try to sound dope. It gets rather annoying listening to him rhyme throughout this project. It doesn’t really play through too well. The beats are below average. When you hear a Fashawn solo album, and then you hear this after, you think, “What Happened??” All in all, this was not a good look for either MC. I’m definitely hoping to see more from Fashawn solo though.

Two veterans team up to give us a strange new project that is definitely not going to be for everyone. Hieroglyphics member Del The Funky Homosapien and the ever-eccentric Kool Keith join forces to provide this newest sound journey as a team called Funk Pimpin stylized as FNKPMPN. On the mic, I gotta be honest, this one is out there. There aren’t going to be too many people that are gonna fall into this lane. I’m not saying it is whack, it just really isn’t for everyone. The beats are the same way. They are really strange. You won’t ever hear this on the radio, I can guarantee you that. The best song on here is “The Typical Boob” in which Del really spits some decent bars over a dope beat. This one is definitely salvageable. Overall, this one probably won’t go over to well with the masses. We’re still always checking for these two MCs though.

Lecrae and some artist named 1K Phew dropped a new project and this one is definitely a lil too bouncy. It sounds too much like this new age rap and there really isn’t a whole lot of substance to it. I find that weird coming from Lecrae because he usually is deeper than that. This sounds like selling out to me. As far as the bars, a lot of it sounds like gibberish and any message that might be in there is definitely lost. The beats are definitely way too bouncy and not up to par for where one of God’s messengers should have them. All in all, there really wasn’t much to take away from this album. This is more than likely one that fans will want to skip over.

French Montana is back with a new album and this one is pretty lack-luster overall. Anyone out there can take an old sample or a classic reworked song and rap over it again. It will probably be a hit too. Since it was a hit the first time, it should be a hit again. That doesn’t require much talent at all. His bars throughout this album don’t require much thought at all. No one out there is saying “Hey did you hear that hot new French Montana bar that he spit?” Nobody is saying that at all. There really isn’t a whole lot of talent or effort on this new one. The only credit I will give here is that he may have captured some of that old nostalgia when playing old samples back on certain songs, but that’s about it. Anyone at all can do that. I wish French would try harder and be more lyrical.

Meek Mill drops a new album and most of these songs are pretty much the same. You get a few where he tries to make some radio joints like “Ride For You” featuring Kehlani, but other than that, you’re not gonna get too much with this one. Meek yells his rhymes at us yet again. He gets some help from features like Lil Baby, Lil Durk, ASAP Ferg, and others, but it really doesn’t matter too much. The beats on here are pretty simple. Most of the songs sound similar. This really wasn’t a good effort and hip hop fans will definitely want to skip over this one.

Mach Hommy drops off a new album and this one isn’t too good. On the mic, his flow sounds the same as usual. It sounds like it would be strong, but there is a lot of gibberish. He gets features from Tha God Fahim, JuJu Gotti, Kungg Fuu, and more. The beats are average. There really isn’t anything that is going to stand out too much, but they aren’t terrible either. The highlight of this album is “Hut One” with its slamming drums and the MCs actually ride the beat pretty well. Other than that, you can pretty much toss this one.

For some reason, there were 5 of these projects made. On the mic, Canibus has always demonstrated that he has otherworldly abilities when it comes to crafting lyrics and this project is no different. He is and always has been talented. Why he chose to work with Marty McKay, a guy that thinks he’s a rapper, is beyond me. Marty McKay should not be rapping. His flow is not very good at all. There are some good features on here from Locksmith, Chino XL, Copywrite, and Mad Squablz. The production on this 5 track project leaves a lot to be desired. It almost sounds like more of a Linkin Park project than a rap album. So hip hop heads are not going to enjoy this or any of the others in the series either. I would probably skip over this one.

Canibus teams up with a horrible rapper named Jaximus to give us an album for some reason. Off the rip, Canibus is a legend and deserves so much respect and admiration from the hip hop community. Everyone knows his story and his journey through the game. His lyrical prowess is almost unmatched but his lack of selecting quality beats to rhyme over is something that has plagued him throughout his entire career. This “rapper” Jaximus that is on this album is one of the worst rappers I have ever heard. His flow is God awful as he can’t stay on the beat. His wordplay is elementary as you listen to him rhyme simple 1 syllable words together. I’m sure there are dead people that can rhyme better. This guy Jaximus, please, please, please, put down the microphone and don’t ever pick it up again. You are a disgrace to the art of rhyming. Stop embarrassing yourself. Canibus, don’t ever work with this guy again. Work with people on your own level, not beneath you. If you are a fan of Canibus, I’m sure you’ll enjoy his bars on this album if you can get through the garbage that Jaximus tries to do.

Lil Flip and D-Rich The Crown Kid team up to give us this brand new project. On the mic, there really aren’t any stellar performances by either MC. Lil Flip is obviously the one with more experience, but it really doesn’t show too much on this project. I had never heard of D-Rich The Crown Kid before this and I don’t know if I will hear of him after this. The beats on here are below average throughout this album. The highlight of the project is “Oh, How It Hurts” which has a sped-up vocal sample laced in with the beat. This is the one saving grace on this album. All in all, this was a pretty sloppy performance all around. This is one you can definitely pass over.

Yelawolf has been on a tear recently putting out project after project. This latest one is a solo album with 14 new tracks. Overall, this is not one of his better works. A lot of these songs don’t really hit very well. Yelawolf definitely has bars, I just don’t think that he demonstrated that fully here with this offering. The beats aren’t the best either. He just wasn’t as successful at crafting songs that hit and stick. The highlight on this project is the sung “Rocks At Your Window.” It’s got a decent melody and plays through pretty well. Other than that, there really isn’t too much else that is slamming on here. Yelawolf definitely has to try harder on the next one.

Meek Mill drops off a quick 4 songs like we needed it or wanted it for some reason. This one isn’t too good. It’s crazy short. The songs really aren’t that good. I suppose on the mic, he almost gets to the level where it sounds like he is spitting a little bit. I guess you could say he almost has a creative flow here and there. But that’s about it. The beats are pretty trash. The bars are mostly trash. This one just isn’t very good at all. I’d definitely pass on this one.

Troy Ave gives us another project for some reason. This one isn’t too good just as a lot of its predecessors. On the mic, Troy Ave can’t really rhyme too well. There is nothing worse than when he tries to sing hooks and verses. It is absolutely ear-piercing. There’s nothing really rewind-worthy on this entire project. The beats are okay at best. A lot of them are pretty simple. I might give some credit to songs like “She Belongs To The Game 2” since it has somewhat of a decent beat. His diss track against Joe Budden “Junkie Joe” is borderline laughable at how bad it is. Songs like “So Bitter” and “Sound Asleep” are absolutely terrible. These are the kinds of songs that have been defining Troy Ave recently and it is just God awful. If you are going to make songs like that, please just stop rapping.

This project from Freddie Gibbs and Alchemist was pretty boring overall. I wanted to like it. I wanted to believe that Freddie Gibbs would have some bars. He’s just boring. There really aren’t any lines that I can recite back after listening to this. It just goes on and on and a lot of times, I was just wanting it to be over. With Alchemist on the beats, I thought that maybe he would salvage the album, but his work wasn’t quite up to par either. Hopefully these were some of his throwaway tracks that he just had lying around. Yeah, overall, this was a pretty boring release. I’d skip over this one.

Flesh-N-Bone is back with a new project. This one isn’t very good. The rhymes are very sloppy. It is not reminiscent of old school Bone Thugs N Harmony records at all. He’s got a little bit of a melody going, but this is one of those records where you just can’t wait until it’s over. The production is below average. There really isn’t too much to salvage from this one. The best beat on here is probably “Crazy Stuff” with it’s boom bap feel and then an honorable mention to “Before The Rap.” All in all, this wasn’t too good of an album.  You will probably want to skip over this one.

Stalley drops off a mediocre new project. We haven’t heard from him in quite some time. This new one needs a lot of work. Overall, the rhymes aren’t very good. There are a few places where he shines slightly like “My Thoughts” but not very much throughout the project. The beats are pretty sub-standard as well. Occasionally, you hear somewhat of an interesting beat like on “F What You Say” or “Tokyo Proverbs” but for the most part, this project falls pretty flat. Sticky Fingaz releases the long-awaited T.I.M.E. album and this one fell way short of what it should have been. Sticky Fingaz was always the one from Onyx that really stuck out and shined. He had crazy lyrics and an aggressive attitude which everyone loved. Hearing him sort of “sing” or have a sing-songy flow on this new project is absolutely not what anyone wanted to hear. His first solo album Black Trash was amazing and he just hasn’t recreated that feeling since then. Songs like “Made Me This Way” featuring Cassidy and “S.T.F.U.” featuring M.O.P. actually have some dope lyrical content and some decent beats, but it seems to be more because of the featured artists if anything. The production was pretty sub-standard over this whole project. You don’t really get any of the old bangers that Onyx was known for. This was a pretty disappointing album overall.

Tory Lanez gives us the third installment of The New Toronto series and this one pretty much falls flat. The most glaring critique of this project is that most of these songs sound the same. Sure, Tory Lanez raps here and there, but when he does, he sounds exactly like Drake. He has the same exact flow. And every other song is basically just a trash version of some kind of turn-up song that we have already heard a million times over. If you are looking for creativity, there is none here. This is not pushing culture forward at all. Skip right over this one and keep it moving.

This chapter of the Stack Bundles legacy was actually pretty whack. Now it’s not really because of Stack, but more so because of the other MCs that were featured on here. There are some really sub par artists on here and a lot of tracks that aren’t too quality. Stack shines through here and there on here, but for the most part, it is a lot of garbage on here. This one was definitely a tougher listen. I would skip right past this chapter on this journey.

The Wu-Tang affiliates Wu-Syndicate drop a quick 6 track project in which they apparently had to get some heat off their chests. This project is a bit of a mixed bag. The first track “Syndicate” and the last track “Streets Feel This” are pretty dope. They have great flows on these and pretty decent bars. Hard street bars complement the hard drums on both of these tracks. Now, the rest of the project is complete garbage. Hearing them rhyme over Young MA’s “Ooouuu” track in the form of “TruUuue” is just terrible. It sounds really bad to hear these vets trying desperately to appeal to a younger crowd by grabbing newer tracks and trying to stay relevant. On “Terrence Thornton” they absolutely sound like the hottest dumpster fire around. First of all, why the hell are they going at Pusha T trying to start a beef? Pusha T’s worst record sounds better than any Wu-Syndicate song on their best day. Are they trying to take shots at legend to get hot and get their name in the streets more? It is an age old tactic to start a beef just to get relevant and that is exactly what this seems like. To keep it all the way real, there aren’t too many who remember Wu-Syndicate anymore. That is a fact. Ask people today if they remember. The answer will more than likely be no. Plus the track is littered with auto-tune which sounds god-awful. Again, sounds like they are trying to sell out and appeal to a newer generation of listeners. This is not the way to do it at all. Seriously, lay off the fabricated beefs and trying to sound fresh with new sounds. Do what you do and stay in your lane. Just based on the Pusha T disses on here, I would probably skip this project. It just isn’t worth it.

Drake and Future team up again to put out the second edition of their What A Time To Be Alive series. This one seems to be an unofficial mixtape. To be quite honest, this one is pretty much mostly garbage. The first offering they had was pretty decent. I think they went for more of a collaboration on that one while they blended their styles together to get the best of both worlds. On this offering, it is basically a Future album with moments of Drake sprinkled throughout. While Drake sounds decent when he sings solo on songs like “Like I’m Supposed To,” there isn’t much more to offer on this record. Future just sounds absolutely awful. He sounds like a pill-infested, lean-chugging zombie. It’s actually quite pitiful how bad his bars are. The beats on here aren’t much better at all. It definitely sounds thrown together and shoddy at best. This is one of the first times that I can remember that Drake has served up a dud of an album and all fingers are pointing at Future as the reason. Drake needs to stop collaborating with people that aren’t as talented as him even if they are so-called “hot” at the moment.

The D-12 vet drops off another new project. This one started out just how anyone would picture it starting – absolutely horrible. I was about to give this project a complete 0 for being terrible, but Bizarre actually put forth a few meaningful tracks towards the end of the project. His bars are just God awful most of the way through, but on a few spots, he actually comes through with some decent themes. On “Lose Weight” he raps about the dangers of being overweight and the struggles to drop the extra pounds. On “Step Father” he celebrates the good step fathers out there raising other people’s kids. So he definitely can put some positive messages out here and there despite having next to no lyrical ability. The beats on this project as a whole weren’t too good either. Again, the end of the album finishes up stronger than the beginning, but there really isn’t too much to salvage. Bizarre needs to stop rapping or maybe just be a feature here and there.

This is just disappointing all around. First off, Chris Rivers is an incredible talent. His rhymes are amazing and he is 100% fully capable of unleashing a lyrical barrage. While he may be highly skilled, his lyrical content on this project was disappointing. He whines the entire way through about mental health issues. While yes, those things are important to address, it comes off as annoying just as when someone on social media puts their entire life history on display in a post to get attention. The streets want the hard bars just like he gave us in 2012 on “Let One Off.” We want that Chris Rivers back. He has stepped out of the shadow of his dad and he has already proved to us that he is a great talent. It just didn’t show through on this project at all. The beats are average to below average on here as well. Over top of these kinds of beats, Chris Rivers reminded me more of Logic. I feel for the guy if he has legit issues going on, but go to a doctor and get help first. Don’t spew it out all over fans please.
