Another good release from Urbanelite Promotions! Being previously aware of Frost Gamble through his album with Tone Chop, I was excited to hear this release. Overall, this was a strong record and there were a few things that stuck out to me with this project. Zothejerk is a Detroit native that definitely has that Detroit sound in his lyrics. The one thing I didn’t really like was probably his voice, but I think that is more just my preference and may not be the general popular consensus. That aside, he’s got some decent lyrics and he paints a great portrait here with Black Beach. The standout part of this album has to be the production. Frost Gamble is a genius. The sounds that he created are fantastic on this record. From beginning to end, he delivers an onslaught of great beats. The highlights for me included “Drunk Roses” which has a mystical, soulful beat and “Risk Vs. Reward” featuring Sadat X. Both MCs go hard over a banging beat. The album even closes with a purposeful joint called “Keep Me Safe” which is pretty much a great finish to this project. Another great feature of this album is the cohesiveness of it. It tells a story and it sounds like every song belongs together. That is something you don’t find too often in today’s hip-hop world. This was a great release and something you definitely don’t want to sleep on.
OVERALL RATING: 4 out of 5 Cheesesteaks
