This album is very strong. Kay Slay usually sticks to the same formula for every album but it seems to really work on this release. Usually he will throw the classic NY artists on the first three quarters, or so, of the album in various combinations and then throw some newer no-name artists together towards the end of the album. The first part of the album is usually mediocre but for some reason, this project is definitely slamming. The beats just seem harder than usual. The rhymes seem to go harder as well. It almost feels as if they are bringing that old NY feel back which is so desperately needed today. I don’t know if there is some sort of sense of urgency but it feels like the rappers on this album are bringing back a better sense of lyricism. The standout track, in my opinion, has to be “A Different Cloth” with Ransom, McGruff, & Royce Da 5’9″. Three of the hardest spitting MC’s all on one track. They definitely give memorable performances. This one is a must listen for hip hop fans.
