This is a slamming, must-hear album. Elzhi, the Detroit veteran from Slum Village, is the man who brought us the absolutely classic rehashing of Nas’ Illmatic album. Now he brings us his second album Lead Poison. There is absolutely no sophomore jinx here. This album is packed full of tight flows and banging beats. Elzhi is able to get very introspective and delve into every corner of the mind but also ride the beat like a professional BMX rider. The first track “Medicine Man” is a thought-provoking track that sets the tone for the album. “Weedipedia” is a song with heavy drums that talks about getting arrested for marijuana. Other high points of the album include “Friendzone” and “Cloud” which both feature amazing production. This album is a very introspective look at dealing with depression with very clever rhymes over outstanding production. Definitely a must-have for the hip-hop heads.

OVERALL RATING: 4 out of 5 Cheesesteaks
